rn104 ddclient freedns
Hi Guys,
Could someone help me, I'm trying to setup DDClient on my 104 to use FreeDNS (afraid.org)
I've been using this forum aswell as : afraid.org/scripts/freedns.clients.php
But I always get the same error..
System.Log Says:
ddclient.cache Says:
Config:
I have tried the various config and protocols such as "dyndns2" and "freedns" but just cant get it to work
I own a mac but am not very familiar with unix based systems..
Thanks
Jungle Roger

- SandsharkSenseiI had a lot of difficulties setting up ddclient on my Pro. You're on a different ReadyNAS OS version, but I suspect that ddclient still is the same. One of the things I found that you do not have is that it required a final forward slash after the web=address (so web=myip.dnsomatic.com/ in your case). That is the line where it gets your IP address, so it sounds like a possibility of why you would get an error related to 'IP='. (If you point your browser to http://myip.dnsomatic.com, you will see it simply returns your IP address). I use No-IP to do that, but it shouldn't matter so long as it just returns the address (otherwise, you need a SKIP command).
But you may also have some other issues once you get that fixed. Are your user name and password properly quoted? Can't tell from the way you have made them generic.
You do realize, I hope, that *SubDomain Created on Afraid.org* needs to be replaced by the subdomain(s) or domain(s) you are trying to update. Again, hard to tell from the way you've made it generic. The domain name is not quoted.
Here is my configuration for No-IP (with user name, password, and domain name made generic):daemon=600
ssl=yes
use=web, web=ip1.dynupdate.no-ip.com/
protocol=noip,
server=dynupdate.no-ip.com,
login='username'
password='password'
my_domain.no-ip.org
Obviously, change the server, protocol, username, password, and my_domain.no-ip.org to what's appropriate for you, but keep the quoting just as shown. Note, too, the placement of commas at the ends of some lines. Some may not be required, but this definitely works for me and I didn't bother to find if any could be eliminated. Hopefully, with a couple changes for freedns, it'll work for you.
You can also debug whether it is working if you have SSH access, using the following command string:sudo ddclient -daemon=0 -debug -verbose -noquiet
That was what helped me finally figure out it was not retrieving my IP address properly from the web server. - junglerogerAspirantThanks for the reply,
I've tried those things you suggested but no luck...
I'm starting to think it may the version..
the version available is 3.8.0 and it looks like afraid.org will only work with 3.8.1..
Are there any updates??
***Edit***
I have given up on DDclient (I should be able to use a wget script as a cronjob..)
I have tried to uninstall DDClient, it said it was successful but its still running!?!?
is there a command to properly uninstall the app?
