Data recovery, after failed disk

So far,

  • I had trouble accessing the web interface of my ReadyNAS, one of the disks had failed
  • tried an OS reinstall this didn't work.
  • I had RAID set up on my NAS before it stoped working
  • I have taken out the one good disk and put it in a disk caddy, however in windows disk management comes up as unallocated.

Any ideas on how I can get my data of the one good disk? Don't really want to buy a new disk and try and get the RAID to rebuild, don't really think this will work anyway as the ReadyNAS doesn't seem to be co-operating.

Was this running 4.1.x firmware (a sparc-based duo)?

Really not sure, had not logged onto interface in sometime. Is there a way to check?

In that case you could read How to tell whether I have a Duo v1 or Duo v2 or NV+ v1 or NV+ v2

There is a Duo v1 on your profile.

Re: Data recovery, after failed disk

If you use a linux boot CD for your PC, you can try the procedure here; http://home.bott.ca/webserver/?p=306

R-linux for windows might also be worth a try: http://www.r-tt.com/free_linux_recovery/

Netgear offers a paid recovery service.

Re: Data recovery, after failed disk

Thanks for this, been busy since this was posted.

Tried the R-Linux tools, however after a scan it can't open any files "The selected disk does not contain any supported file systems or the file system is corrupted"

Will try a kinux boot CD, though have never really used linux before ...

Re: Data recovery, after failed disk

So it seems my brother had powered of my caddy while R-Linux was doing a scan Smiley Frustrated

So have completed the scan, however on trying to recover the files, all the files are 0 bytes, any advise on this please?
