EAX80 Range Extender goes to sleep when no device is connected
I connected a new EAX80 extender to my RAX200 router. It worked fine in the day, but went to sleep when no device was connected to it in the evening. I couldnt find it in the Nighthawk app or using my computer.
I had to reboot the EAX80 to correct the situation, makes no sense doing this often.
The firmware is up to date on both the router and extender.
The router has been fine for a few months, so I assume its not the problem.
Can anyone help me with this?

Re: EAX80 Range Extender goes to sleep when no device is connected
I've never had any of my range extenders go to sleep.
What are its led's doing when it happens?
Does it happen if something is connected to it?
what firmware is on the extender?

Have you tried setting a static ip address in your router for the extender?

Re: EAX80 Range Extender goes to sleep when no device is connected
I tried that. It fixed that problem and I see other problems now. I created wifi name 'network' in the router, and 'network_2G', 'network_5G' in the extender. After a night, the wifi scanner in my laptop says that the two extender networks are available. However, if I go to the extender's wifi settings, it says that the two are 'network'. Wonder what's going wrong.

Re: EAX80 Range Extender goes to sleep when no device is connected
did you enable smart connect on the extender? That combines the 2.4ghz and 5ghz into one ssid.

Re: EAX80 Range Extender goes to sleep when no device is connected
I had enabled the Smart Connect in the extender by default.
I have an RAX200 router. I had not enabled it in the router. This may be the problem. After noticing it, I changed the Smart Connect in the extender to 'off' to match the router. I assume that it must match the router's value.

Re: EAX80 Range Extender goes to sleep when no device is connected
Does it need to match? no.
But I do use smart connect and it's worked pretty good for me. With smart connect on the the one ssid feature (mesh) is a nice option and allows better roaming

Re: EAX80 Range Extender goes to sleep when no device is connected
Based on your suggestion, I changed both the router (RAX200) and the extender (EAX80) to Smart Connect. It works fine now.
I had to move the router to dynamic IP due to problems with my Comcast internet, wonder why
