EX6200 Strange Download Speeds on 2.4GHz

Hey guys,

I have an EX6200 as an Access Point wired to my router, which has been OK, but also kind of flakey.  I finally got around to running some tests on it, and here's what I found:

On 2.4GHz WiFi I get around 17Mbps down and 40Mbps up...what could be gimping the download speeds when the upload on the same configuration is so much faster?

In contrast, on 5GHz WiFi I get around 420Mbps down and about 43Mbps up.

I also noticed the device makes a wierd humming noise during the tests, whatever that means, haha.

Has anyone seen this, even other devices?  Just seems so odd and no settings I try seem to help at all...

Thanks in advance for any help!

Also worth noting, is that when connecting to the 2.4GHz WiFi of my router itself, I'm getting about 90Mbps down and about 43Mbps up.

And finally, not sure if it matters at all, but these tests were done through my phone.

Re: EX6200 Strange Download Speeds on 2.4GHz

Another update:

I was able to borrow a relative's Linksys router that they weren't using and set it up as an AP in the exact same location, wiring, etc., and on 2.4GHz, it's getting 55-60Mbps down and about 43Mbps up.

There has to be something goofy with my EX6200...

There's no throttling, filtering, or QoS-style functionality with this access point, is there?

Re: EX6200 Strange Download Speeds on 2.4GHz

There are no settings for any filtering in the EX6200 setup and in general everything just flows through it - which is what yu would expect for an extender/access point.  Are you set up for automatic updates so that you are running the current firmware?

  • Hardware Version EX6200
  • Firmware Version V1.0.3.82_1.1.117

I recently updated my EX6200 (running as an Access Point) and have been seeing problems with devices simply dropping off the network.  It looks as if there's some sort of purge going on where if a device goes to sleep, when it tries to reconnect the AP seems to ignore it.  Last night the AP just crashed and had to be restarted this morning.
