Powerline and/or a range extender-will it help me?

I just did a speed test.  Download speed is 0.27 Mbps and upload speed is 0.41 Mbps.

As you can imagine watching Netflix is a major pain.  MY ISP has no intention of doing nothing but to keep ripping me off.  Will a power line range adapter or a range extender help me out?

I have a Netgear AC 1200 R6120 model router.

Thanks

Need just a little more info to appropriately answer this question.

What speeds are you paying for?

Is this cable, dsl, etc.

What is your gateway?

What speeds do you get hardwired to your gateway?

What sized area are you covering? The speedtest you're quoting is at what point?

If the fastest speeds you can get  Hardwired is DL .33Mbs UL .60Mbs then a range extender/powerline isn't going to help much. You'd need to get that improved to see much a of difference with an extender or powerline.

Either a different dsl modem that can do a little better with limited dsl strength or you can work with your dsl provider to see if they can add a dsl loop extender to boost their signals. Some providers will possibly do it but not many as its expensive.  Or see if there's a way to switch providers..

have you ever been able to hit 3mbps?

Re: Powerline and/or a range extender-will it help me?

Yes on 3mbps about 10 years ago before they oversold the area without doing any upgrades.  ISP admitted to "latency outtage" and said they have no intention of upgrading system.  Live in the sticks and the ISP we use is our only option.  It's a total scam!

What about going to a mesh system?

Your speeds aren't goin to improve if they've oversold and you're only getting 0.3Mbps. You can add a mesh system so you're whole house is blanketed in 0.3mbps but thats going to be the max you'd get.

An option for you would be to setup a media server  so you could stream HD to your whole home from your own server.  this would bypass your ISP's speeds by basing it off your own network. It would allow you  to download overnight so that your bandwidth would be used while you were sleeping.  It wouldn't speed up your internet for daily usage but it would allow you to download movies overnight and have them ready the next day. Live streaming with a 0.3 mbps connection isn't going to be enjoyable.

LOL!

I know it's not that enjoyable as we have been living with that for 10 years!

Thanks for all the info.  I will just have to continue to deal till we move.

I just wanted to know if spending any more $ would help and basically what I was thinking has been confirmed.  Junk is junk no matter where in the house it is at.

Thanks for your time!
