WNDR3700 no internet connection due to storm
My ISP broadband modem (ARRIS TM822) was killed during a storm, it was replaced with the same model, and initially, when I hooked up my Router, the wireless worked fine. I didn't go into settings or anything, just plugged it in, and it worked seamlessly. However by the following morning, I was unable to connect to the internet.
I've done a lot of trouble-shooting:
- First I powered everything down, pulling cables, batteries on modem, etc, and started up in sequence. Did this a number of times to no avail.
- I updated the router firmware, did the start-up, no luck
- Logged into the router, using the routerlogin.net, and ran the set-up wizard. Got message saying "No Internet connection detected" "Please check connection to the Internet WAN port and cable/DSL modem"
- Did a factory reset, and used the Resource CD. At the Preparation tab, got "No Adapter" "The Ethernet Adapter is either disabled or no Ethernet adapter is installed on this computer..." I updated the driver for the LAN on my computer (it was RealTek something), and uninstalled and re-installed it. Same outcome.
- Additionally, the port is fine. The LED indicator for the Ethernet port shows green on the Router, and on the computer, the port "lights up" to show a good connection. It also works fine when connected directly into the modem.
- The LAN network status on the computer shows data being sent and received when connected to the Router strangely enough, even though I can't connect to the internet.
So, it's been a long, frustrating day. I'd appreciate some help on resolving this issue.
Thanks in advance.
Hi Elaine,
I wasn't able to get it to work. I've pretty much confirmed it's the router however. I tried another router and it works fine with the modem, and I had a friend check my router on his network. It didn't work there either. So I'll have to buy another.
Perhaps it was damaged in the storm that killed the modem. Just very strange that it worked for sometime before stopping, and that it wasn't killed completely like the modem, just perhaps the internet port. Both were plugged into a surge protector as well! Maybe I can get some compensation from the manufacturer. Oh well...
Thanks for following up.

connect a wired pc to modem...... if you can surf then using same pc...... connect router to modem..... and use Wired pc to login to router, go to advanced.....internet setup.....scroll down select use PC MAC Address. Save then reboot router

You're welcome, router may need replacing too.

No further suggestions? Anyone?

Napiertt This should have been fixed by a firmware upgrade and factory reset.
Did you also try power cycling the Arris modem? If yes, then must be a faulty router.

Yes, did that as well.
It would be quite a coincidence for the router to fail so soon after the modem was replaced. The ethernet port LED lights up in green on the front of the router when connected to my computer, and the computer ethernet port is fine. Damn frustrating problem. I'd probably borrow a wireless router and see if it works fine with the modem and my computer (I also swapped computers to test, but no luck). If it works, I'd take a sledgehammer to this curent router.
