EX6200
61 TopicsLooses connection
Hi, I have the EX6200 working in FastLane mode where it connects via 5Ghz to my router (AirPort Extreme last generation) and then using wires I connect some other stuff to it. Well, all this works fine, but then after 2-3 days the extender looses its connection to the router and such those wired devices cannot see anymore my network. I have to switch off and on (using the button on rear side) the extender and then it reconnects fine and all works fine again. That's getting quite annoying. I have another extender from Gateway and that guy is always connected, never lost connection. I did update the firmware to 1.0.0.46 but the problem persists. Any ideas why this might happen? I chose the EX6200 because of the wifi C connectivity, as I need to stream BlueRay rips from my server to a box that plays them on TV, the Gateway extender which is only N could not handle such a rate transfer.46KViews0likes43CommentsEX6200, unlike EX6100, doesn't support LAN uplink!
I've just received delivery of an EX6200, expecting to connect it my existing router via wired Ethernet (LAN) connection i.e. as an access point. Apparently the EX6200 does not support this scenario, whereas the cheaper EX6100 does. I'd appreciate if the EX6200 product development/technical support can assist with the following questions- Q1. Is the EX6200 hardware capable of supporting wired access point (LAN) connection (i.e. back to a router) as per the EX6100? Q2. Are there any plans to add wired (LAN) access point functionality in a firmware upgrade, assuming hardware support is there? FYI: I went for the EX6200 over the cheaper EX6100 due to the better specs (faster, more signal, etc) and expected it to support all the EX6100 features and more….. I've just been on the blower (phone) for an hour to very a helpful Netgear support person. He confirmed the EX6200 does not support wired Ethernet to the router and only WiFi extension is supported. The cheaper/slower EX6100 will do the job I want. Silly me - looking at the forums, I'm not the first customer to have this issue. In any case, I'm very disappointed that the lack of support for wired (LAN) connection to the upstream device does not appear in the EX6200 spec sheets/web page, AFAIK. :( Perhaps the EX6200 should have been called something else… E.g. "EW6200", to differentiate it from the cheaper EX6100, which supports wired upstream connection. I bought the EX6200 (cost $AU115) to replace a Belkin F7D1301 (cost $AU18) especially because the EX6200 supports 802.11AC and 5GHz. Sadly, the EX6200 is now packed back in its box and the F7D1301 is back in service till this issue is resolved. Best Regards, dB Communications Engineer - who is feeling a bit stoopid right now…35KViews0likes16Commentsvirtual MAC addresses?
I saw another thread here that says that the EX6200 extender assigns so-called "virtual MAC addresses" to its clients. This might be why my laptop and iPad can't connect to wifi - I have MAC filtering turned on on the main router, and these virtual MAC addresses aren't registered. How do I figure out what they are, so that I can allow them?27KViews1like3Commentscannot open https website?
Hi My PC cannot open sites that starts with https when the PC is connected to the extender with wire. Doesn't matter which 3 browser i use. When that happen, I always had to reboot the extender. That gets very annoying. My extender is connected through the netgear nighthawk router wirelessly. Os there a way to fix it without having to reboot every single time?26KViews0likes20CommentsWiFi Channel locked to "Auto" and clashes
My brand new EX6200 has had the latest firmware applied and is generally functioning fine in all respects. Except... I've noticed that it is using Wifi channel 2, which directly clashes with the router it is extending, so of course I'd like to change that. But the Wireless settings screen has the channel selection as Auto and this setting is greyed out - I cannot change it. I see that other people are able to edit this, which is as it should be. But why can't I? I've searched online, in the manual and here, but I seem to be unique with this problem. If I can't change it, this unit is useless to me, the channel 2 clash makes using the signal an unreliable and sometimes painful experience (for example, it sometimes pauses for ages on "obtaining IP address" when my clients try to connect.22KViews2likes2CommentsR7000 Nighthawk wired to EX6200?
I just purchased the R7000 Nighthawk router and while the speed increase has been fantastic the range has not been great. Setup was simple, I installed it in my basement where my old DLINK N router was and got everything working great then discovered the signal died when I go up to the second floor of my house. So I'm looking for an extender to put up on my second floor. I found the EX6200 which seems to be the best netgear has to offer right now. I want the best possible signal from the R7000 to the EX6200. So can I just connect the two with an ethernet cable from a LAN port on each rather than try to use a wireless connection between the two? I already have an ethernet cable run to the second floor. I was thinking that'd be better than using wireless to connect the two units. Thanks for your help.21KViews0likes15CommentsEX6200 Can not see 5GHz Network on Router
Hi All, Firstly thanks to everyone who contributes to these forums, I have been doing some reading and found many comments useful, but I have an issue with my EX6200 and/or Router which I am unable to find a solution for and wondered if anyone else has come across a similar issue or can shed any light on why it would have this problem. My setup is quite straight forward and works fine on all devices apart from with the EX6200. My router is an ASUS RT-AC68U, great router giving good signal to most of the house 2.4GHz band and 5GHz AC and everything connects to that fine (TV, Mobiles, Laptops, Tablets). It appears to work perfect on both 2.4GHz band and 5GHz AC Band. BUT the problem is I have a PC upstairs which needs the internet and this is my main PC which I use for my business so it is important. I also have my server running upstairs too, both are hardwired and connected to a Gb switch. For these I need a good solid reliable connect and previously I had some Netgear AV200 Homeplugs working which I had for many years and they worked fine but they became quite slow so I upgraded to some newer TP-Links. The TP Links were great when they worked but many times dropped connection for no reason and when rebooted were fine again. This was always when you needed them most and highly annoying. Then I saw the EX6200 and thought great I will buy and try one of those as it will work fine as I have a fairly good WiFi coverage in my house. The problem with the EX6200 is that it will not see the 5GHz band WiFi network from my router. When I initially did the setup it never saw it, it sees the 2.4GHz fine. I tried various things, channels, reboots, firmware (both router and EX6200) and nothing worked. I bought the EX6200 from eBuyer in the UK and had contacted their technical support about this and also spent hours on the phone with Netgear technical support neither could offer a solution. I have good coverage as I mentioned and tried the EX6200 close to the router so no coverage problem there also different chanels but nothing works. When I run the setup it does show other 5GHz networks (neighbours) so the 5GHz is working and also one day out of the blue it did see my network (great), so I set it up. I have mainly 2.4GHz devices in my home and as my main use for this is to give hardwired devices a good connection I use the fastlane connection, so connect the EX6200 to my router on 5GHz AC and output 2.4GHz from the EX6200 (not that I really need the extra coverage) it just mean the connection is good and works fine. BUT..... I rebooted my router, and then the EX6200 no longer connects to the router. Again it can not see the 5GHz network, setup does not show the routers 5GHz (as before) but sees the 2.4GHz fine. Manual setting do not work as it cant see the router on 5GHz and no matter how many reboots of the devices the 5GHz is nowhere to be seen. One day again for some reason the EX6200 saw the 5GHz again so I set it up with the fastlane and it worked again, but then once more I needed to reboot the router and now no 5GHz again. So there is obviously something wrong, either with the router or the EX6200. I know the EX6200 works on the 5GHz as it has connected before and works very well, it is stable and fast, it also sees other 5GHz networks every time but just not my routers. BUT I also know my router works fine on the 5GHz band as I have other devices connected to it and it never goes off, is always stable and never had connection problems. On my router there are no MAC filtering rules, no firewall rules or restrictions of any kind on my network (apart from the normal WiFi security password required) On other devices I can always see the 5GHz network and the SSID is shown and everything else can connect, it is just for some reason the EX6200 can not see it but it has a few times and I have no idea why. I tried to get a replacement from eBuyer but they were very unhelpful (shame on you), the tech support guy said you can not use it like that (Fastlane) which of course you can as that is what it is designed for and I have had it working, he said I could not return it as faulty as there was nothing "wrong" with it, he said they might just not be compatible which was not their fault. I can not see that they can not be "compatible", can they? Any help, suggestions would be greatly appreciated as there must be some reason for this or one device which has an issue. I am just very confused  as each device works fine but just not with each other. Many thanks in advance to anyone who can assist.17KViews0likes5CommentsEX6200 Can't Connect ? ? ?
What really ticks me off is...I can login into my router all-day long using its IP address, but I have never been able to login to the Extender using its IP (192.168.1.250), nor does mywifiext.net work or .com as it informs you in the directions and FAQ's. The only way I can connect to it is by connecting it directly to the LAN port on my laptop.17KViews0likes5Comments"Unable to download GUI language file from netgear server"
bought the EX6200 saturday night and am excited to use it. after setup the portal indicated there was a firmware update available. tried to update, and each time get the above error. what's the issue? Also, i tried to manually download the file and send it to the device, but on the fw upload screen it says its sending to the device, gets to maybe 30-45% and then there's an error screen saying connection timeout. all i want is to update the firmware, which should not be this hard...15KViews0likes6Comments
