8 TopicsBUG: ReadyCloud install error
Hi Just found out this little bug. On a Windows where you have changed the temp directory place in the system variables settings (Temp and Tmp point at c:\tmp on my computer) and you install ReadyCloud, the software decompresses files in the correct tmp directory (c:\tmp) but when the install needs to read the decompressed files, it searches in the "usual" windows temp directory (from memory c:\users\blablabla\temp). The install stops and asks where it can find some files (like ??stuff or similar). Sorry, I did things without noting the exact files. If you show it where the files are, install goes on as it should. I suppose the temp path ws read from the system to uncompresse the files but was hard coded to read the results.3.3KViews0likes0CommentsReadyCloud connect problem after Netgear takes control
Hi I had several problems with 6.2.2. and 6.2.3 betas and on 2 occasions the Netgear helpline took control of my RN312. After both distant controls, I lost my connection to ReadyCloud. I had to cancel my "old" account and create a new one on order to reconnect. I think I may have found the culprit. When I had installed the ReadyNAS OS, the device ID was the part in green nas-some LAN card info. Then the first time NG took control, the device ID got changed and the part in blue was added. The 2nd time the distant control took place, the part in red was added... Edit: As I cannot link to the image, here it the link http://screenpresso.com/=VHJfc End edit. (FYI, I have flouted part of the shown info) I'm not sure if ReadyCloud uses the device ID to reconnoiter the NAS. If this is not the case, I really can't find out why I can't connect to ReadyCloud with my old login/psw. TIA for your help and ideas. Robby5.2KViews0likes7CommentsUnable to see share names
ReadyNAS 316, OS 6.2.0 I'm now using ReadyCLOUD to backup some local PC files. It creates a new share on my NAS for every local folder I backup. The new share name is prefixed by my machine name and then a hyphen. This leads to some long share names. Problem is the OS6 only shows a limited amount of the share name. I can't see the difference between the names. All I see for each one is "SILENTBOB-" and it isn't possible to differentiate without going to the "Browse" view. Any solution for this? It's quite a UI limitation.4.4KViews0likes5CommentsReq: ReadyCloud backup - specify source & target subdirs
I've just installed OS6 on my Ultra 4, running fine :). One of the features I was looking forward to use was the ReadyCloud backup, but it's quite disappointing though. I miss some features that seem basic. Custom source folder When choosing the source folder on a desktop (by clicking on the ReadyCloud tray icon, then "backup PC folder") I'm limited to the contents/subdirectories of c:\users\< user>\ Why? There are MANY cases where you'd like to backup only a subdir of one of those directories. Or of a folder that's not located in the userdir at all. Examples: c:\users\myaccount\My documents\crucialdox or d:\mydata More logical & secure destination folder There seem no options to change the destination folder of the backup. By default it's added to the list of available shares. This has several disadvantages: it's public!?! /data/backuptarget is owned by guest on 777?!? I just don't get it. First you limit the folders that can be chosen to a userdir at the user end, end then you publish the backup publicly at 777? So far for privacy; very hard to explain to people. it's crowding the list of available shares. Too what end? It's just a backup, only needed in case of emergency. No need for such a prominent location. It makes the "regular" locations that people have to access more often less obvious to find. And that's from a user perspective. Imagine the list an admin faces. I expected a location similar to the users snapshots. A logical place could be /home/< username>/backups or something (obviously at 700), with a subfolder for every folder that has been configured by the user to backup. Final questions Could you PLEASE implement those requests in a future version? Can you think of a work around (editing configuration files) to achieve the desired result? Will probably involve client and nas-sided changes. PS: to be complete: fortunately the ReadyCloud mobile app does allow a custom folder to be set for picture backups. [edit1]As a work around you can manually hide the shares. But you can't seem to change the owner to a ReadyCloud user in general though? [edit2]Please move this topic to subforum feature requests. Sorry!4.6KViews1like5CommentsReadyCloud Feedback
1) When setting up the ReadyNAS from the Cloud Tab of the Admin page (locally)... The first time you turn the ReadyCloud switch to ON, it asks you for a username and password. You should add some verbage there that lets the person know that this login will be made into an administrator for ReadyCloud. This "cloud admin" user is also different than the local admin user. This does not become clear until much later in the setup process after looking at access permissions and some trial and error. I only noticed because the "cloud admin" gets the little key on the user symbol. 2) From the local admin page, why can't I invite someone to a share and setup permissions in that interface? Instead it requires me to go to your readycloud.netgear.com website, login there with my "cloud admin" and then I can invite someone and set their permissions. 3) The ReadyCloud PC windows app is supposed to offer syncing of files/folders. But there is no way to set a custom sync location outside of "My Documents". For example, I want to sync a share to a different drive letter or folder. Furthermore, it appears that all shares must be synced to the same folder location. The shares cannot have different sync destinations. Nor is there any way to control if the sync is one-way or bi-directional. 4) The ReadyCloud PC windows app is supposed to replace the ReadyNAS Remote app that gives you a VPN tunnel when in remote locations. I have yet to get the ReadyCloud app to connect remotely and display my shares (with external IP). It tells me my NAS is "Online (VPN Disconnected)". If I can get this to work, then #3 is irrelevant, because I have a separate syncing tool I used to use with ReadyNAS Remote that would let me tunnel in as if I was local and sync 10 ways from Sunday.7.1KViews0likes13CommentsToo many different Netgear usernames
It seems like every cloud/support/genie part of Netgear has a different username and password. There should be 1 and it should work across Genie, ReadyCloud, Replicate, Support, registration, everything Netgear. The fact that ReadyCloud and the Genie App store use different logins is crazy.4.7KViews0likes5Commentsi feel like a BETA tester - OS 6
Hello Netgear, I am the owner of a ReadyNAS 516. I am also the owner of a Pioneer NVX and a Pro Business. I wanted the RN-516 because i wanted ReadyCloud. the thought of accessing my files and being able to upload to my device from anywhere was worth it to me. (i know this is possible with older devices, but not out of the box) I assumed that EVERYTHING else i had come to expect from my readyNAS would still be available. 1. ReadyDLNA does NOT work. WD TV Live, XBOX, Sony Bravia TV, IOS Plug Player, etc.... It DOES NOT work. 2. Plex will blow up if too many files are added to it. (this is NOT an issue on my older devices). While i AM watching something from Plex, i get these errors; System volume 'root' usage is 93 %. This condition should not occur in normal conditions. Please contact technical support. 3. Transmission cannot survive a reboot. If the system is rebooted, Transmission needs to be re-installed. and the default download directory become /Donwloads. <-- see the bad spelling. I know i cannot blame Netgear for 2 and 3, but I sure as heck can for #1. Plex, How hard is it to make your software work on Debian Wheezy.... must be near impossbile since it doesn't currently. Super Poussin, you should be ashamed of yourself for accepting $4.99 for Transmission that cannot survive a reboot. to all the people that complained "How come my older devices will not be upgraded to OS 6?", you should get down on your knees and kiss Netgears feet for not letting you do this. OS 6 blows compaired to 4.22 I want 4.22 on the new hardware..9.8KViews0likes23Comments
