ReadyCloud Feedback
1) When setting up the ReadyNAS from the Cloud Tab of the Admin page (locally)... The first time you turn the ReadyCloud switch to ON, it asks you for a username and password. You should add some verbage there that lets the person know that this login will be made into an administrator for ReadyCloud. This "cloud admin" user is also different than the local admin user. This does not become clear until much later in the setup process after looking at access permissions and some trial and error. I only noticed because the "cloud admin" gets the little key on the user symbol.
2) From the local admin page, why can't I invite someone to a share and setup permissions in that interface? Instead it requires me to go to your readycloud.netgear.com website, login there with my "cloud admin" and then I can invite someone and set their permissions.
3) The ReadyCloud PC windows app is supposed to offer syncing of files/folders. But there is no way to set a custom sync location outside of "My Documents". For example, I want to sync a share to a different drive letter or folder. Furthermore, it appears that all shares must be synced to the same folder location. The shares cannot have different sync destinations. Nor is there any way to control if the sync is one-way or bi-directional.
4) The ReadyCloud PC windows app is supposed to replace the ReadyNAS Remote app that gives you a VPN tunnel when in remote locations. I have yet to get the ReadyCloud app to connect remotely and display my shares (with external IP). It tells me my NAS is "Online (VPN Disconnected)". If I can get this to work, then #3 is irrelevant, because I have a separate syncing tool I used to use with ReadyNAS Remote that would let me tunnel in as if I was local and sync 10 ways from Sunday.

I have solved this by opening up port 6300 and forwarding it to the IP of the NAS.
Cloud>ReadyNAS Remote>Settings>Security (you should also have an option to change the port) - Maestro11AspirantOkay, I tried this, set up port forwarding on my router to allow the mac desktop ready cloud to remotely access it outside my home network. As part of this I also went into the NAS network setup and set the IP address from DHCP to Static so that way it always had the same IP address to forward to and this appears to have a bad side effect, I did this because I turn my NAS off at night. When I set the IP address to Static, ready cloud would report the NAS as offline even though it was still working since I could use the RAIDar app to get into the admin tools as well as stream content from the NAS to iTunes and other media devices. As soon as I switch the IP address from Static to DHCP everything was fine again, but can not login on remotely and it still report the VPN is disconnected.
Any insight on how to get around this. - NhellieVirtuosoMaestro,
What FW version are you running on?
I haven't tried using a static IP on the NAS, but my suggestion is instead using static IP on the NAS try reserving an IP address on your router instead. - Maestro11AspirantNhellie,
Thanks, I am running 6.2 I have not updated to 6.2.2 since I read that some people were running into issues. However, I did just install a new Netgear wireless router since my old one was giving me issues and it did not support 1000BaseT connections. The old router did not support reserving IP so the only way to do port forwarding was to set the device to a static IP. The new one does support this so I will give it a try and see if that fixes offline issue as well as external VPN connection showing not connected. - Maestro11AspirantSorry for taking so long too get back top this topic I got busy with some other issues and now finally had time to do testing.
The issue with "Online (VPN Disconnected)" with the mac App appears to be a mac issue.
I have set up on a new netgear router with the NAS having a reserved IP address and port 6300 forward to that IP address and updated my NAS to 6.2.2. The Mac ReadyCloud App will connect to the NAS when I am within the same network, but I keep getting the "Online (VPN Disconnected)" message outside the network. I also test the Window's version of the app internal and external and it works fine and connects with no issues. The mac version takes a very long time to try to connect and them times out with the "Online (VPN Disconnected)" message. I am not sure what the issue is at this point.
Where do I report this issue with Netgear? - StephenBGuru - Experienced User
support.netgear.comMaestro wrote: Where do I report this issue with Netgear? - _shawAspirantI've been struggling with ReadyCloud for the last fortnight. Under 6.1 I had ReadyCloud working. With 6.2.2 it is not.
I'm running an RN102 with a fixed IP in a reserved range on a private segment with no unusual firewalling or port filtering. The ReadyNAS Admin Page "Cloud" tab has the ReadyCloud and ReadyNAS services enabled with a single user and the correct details in "settings" box. Above this is a red cross with the text "Services Offline". From the other end if I log into the ReadyCloud Portal (from a machine on the same segment using Chrome, Safari or IE11) it did show the device immediately after the upgrade but would not connect. Experience suggested removing the device and re-adding it.
Once the device was removed from my account - go to the discovery tab to add it. Nothing found. Press backup key, enter serial number, nothing found. Switched on and off the service - same result. Restarted the system, deleted iOS clients, tried everything I can. It's rather irritating.
Any suggestions would be welcome.
LATER - I see that member Leia indicates that once deleted a device cannot be re-added unless the serial number is used (but that this feature was (2013) not yet implemented on the ReadyCloud portal). Is this still the case? It tallies with my experience. If so it's a fundamental design error. - Maestro11AspirantI just update my ReadCloud App for the Mac to version 1.0.541.105 which was released later in Dec and still having the same issue of it not allowing a VPN connect outside the home network. I have reported this to Netgear let see if they have a solution.
- Maestro11AspirantI had a two week discussion with Netgear on the fact the ReadyCloud Desktop App for the Mac is not working all the time and share with them under what conditions it works and does not work. It definitely have issue on OS X 10.10.2 and being outside your home network.
I got a response today which said they do not believe it is a Mac issue since I shown that the Window's version works fine and they suggest that I just use the Web interface to access files outside my home network while using the mac. - _shawAspirantI think there may be a problem with ReadyCloud if the NAS is switched from DHCP to static. My setup loses ReadyCloud when static picks it up again when using DHCP. In my case using IP4 but others have flagged the same with IP6.
If anyone else can replicate this it may be worth feeding back, it's not expected behaviour.
