Need help! We're an elementary non-profit school with 2 small campuses. We have been using Netgear SRX5308 router in one campus and a Netgear BR500 router on the other campus. It has been running fine for the last 3 years+ with an IPSec VPN. We recently had problems with the SRX5308 and replaced it with an used BR500. Although we set up the replacement BR500 with the same settings as the other one, it would not establish the VPN. We checked and tried the following already without any success: 1) Firmware on both routers are the same at V5.10.0.5. 2) We had a slight custom Phase 1 and 2 VPN parameter settings but changed it to the default ones per the Netgear user manual. 3) We changed each site as Initiator and Responder combinations 4) Both routers are behind Comcast modem/router and we tried opened the firewall completely. We would appreciate any suggestions what we may have missed. Thank you in advance for the help! If I've understood correctly, keeping the software or firmware in this case up to date, is one of the basic tenets of cyber security, the fact that "Nighthawk AC2300 Cybersecurity WiFi Router" does not find a new firmware version automatically let alone after prodding it to see if there is a new version available, doubleplusungood" that is to say horrible. I have opened a case to Netgear on November 2020 regarding this issue. The customer service said that the case was "escalated". Yet when I verified, again, that "V1.5.1.86_10.0.58" did not find "V1.5.1.88_10.0.58" as an new version. Has any one else had this issue or do I have the very unique "Nighthawk AC2300 Cybersecurity WiFi Router"?1.1KViews0likes3CommentsProSecure UTM-50 Firmware Update
I recently aquired a UTM50 for use as a router in a small home lab. I am aware that the device is EOL and do not wish to use it for its firewall capabilities anyway. I downloaded the most recent firmware (3.6.2-8) and tried to upload it but I get an error saying my license is expired? Seeing as the device is EOL, I cannot buy a license for it (Spent almost 3 hours on hold for someone to tell me that) The device is stuck on its factory firmware of 1.3.8 which is.. a bit terrifying. I also tried to load the firmware pkg via TFTP to no avail. It just rebooted a few times and did nothing more. Does anyone know how to successfully upgrade the firmware on this device? Edit: I did also try editing the license flags on the flash card inside the device, made no change.2.5KViews0likes3CommentsCustomizing and compile the firmware for FVS318N

Okay still looking for some answers on this issue. In the last three weeks our BR 500 has reset itself 4 times. Yesterday it did it twice in a six hour span. I already did the standard playbook of hit reset button, blow current firmware on AGAIN, reconfigure it fresh at 4:30 PM yesterday, at 10 PM it reset itself back to factory default again. Wondering if Netgear put something in the firmware to save troubleshooting time and it does it own reset and reboot for you.Solved3.1KViews0likes4CommentsHow to use the BR500 as DHCP server with a Raspberry Pi (running Pi-hole) as a DNS server (no VLANs)
I'm considering replacing my TP-Link Archer C8 v1 with a BR500 so I can remotely access my LAN on the go via VPN. Currently I have the C8 set to use a Raspberry Pi running Pi-Hole (located on the same LAN) as a DNS server (DHCP/IP address assignment is still handled by the C8.) Is it possible to do the same with BR500? The manual (Chapter 4, page 70 onward) seems to suggest that to use a local DNS server, said DNS server has to handle DHCP also. Is this the case, or am I missing something?Solved3.8KViews0likes3CommentsDHCP problem SRX5308 – ProSAFE Quad WAN Gigabit SSL VPN Firewall

BR500 router upgrade firmware to 5.5.0.1 from 5.1.0.15 and it no longer connects to Insight Cloud. One thing I did notice when I went to look in the logs was the BR500 was reporting dates of May 31, 2017 yesterday and June 1, 2017 today. My first inclination is to try to put 5.5 update on again. I have a FVS318Gv2 that has been dropping internet connection intermittantly and is on firmware 4.3.3-6. I have tried to update the firmware using all the advise found on this community, (through the gui and by telnet). The GUI says file is corrupt and through telnet it times out and says invalid software. I have tried several ports, ( only port 1 will maintain a connection and that is if I force the connection speed.) I have tried multiple computers, nothing changes. I even tried to use chat but it is not available. Need Help. Any suggestions? Do you have to telnet though the console port? If so, will a Cisco console cable work?1.7KViews1like2Comments
