My R8500 seems to have crashed today, and is now stuck in a reboot loop. I was working (connected to the router via wifi), and the network dropped. I got up to see what the issue was and could see the router was rebooting. After watching it stuggle for a while, I tried: * Power cycling the router (via both the power button, and unplugging from the wall) * Reset via the button on the back * 30/30/30 Reset * tftp (getting the idea from this page and following these instructions to do it via Linux) None have seemed to have had any effect. Everytime, the lights flash on, the power light goes amber, more flashing lights, then they all go off and it starts over. Following the tfto guide, I was able to connect to the router (confirmed via ping), but every time I tried to transfer the file, it timed out. I am runing the stock firmware, V1.0.2.26_1.0.41, and that is the version I have been trying to flash with tftp. Any help would be appreciated. -ChrisSolved46KViews0likes28CommentsNightHawk R8500 Shutdown - Overheating?
Noticed this afternoon that my R8500 was off. I thought that the power strip had failed so I moved the router's power adapter directly to the wall and it powered back up. After an hour or so, I came back into the office to find it off again. The router felt slightly warm so I elevated it to get circulation underneath it just in case. I also moved it to another power strip and monitored it for a bit. I sat down to play BO3 for a bit and after about an hour the router shut off once again. This time I felt the router right after it shut down and found the bottom to be incredibly hot. Laptop running stress test levels of hot. I unplugged it and plugged it back in with not response. After waiting for about 2 minutes I tried again and it powered up no problem. My guess is that the router is overheating. Anyone else encounter this or have suggestions for testing this theory/methods for dealing with it?Solved19KViews0likes16CommentsR8500 Constant WAN Internet disconnects/connects!

What are the chances that y’all will release the DumaOS software for other Nighthawk models? I purchased a Nighthawk X8 to use with my netduma r1 router when it came out. I’d really like to be able to use all the power it came with and have the DumaOS software in a update. Has anyone heard anything on this issue?Solved11KViews1like2CommentsNighthawk X8 R8500 Band Steering
Hello everyone. I'm looking to buy this amazing router as it gets available in Spain, so I have read every review available, and I found one thing that could be very frustrating. There's no option to set the same SSID on 2,4Ghz and 5Ghz band... So you will have to set separate SSID. I think this is a huge disadvantage, becouse, maybe the router has no band steering implemented? Becouse the Smart Connect feature, just works between 5Ghz Bands, but what about device that support 2,4Ghz and 5Ghz? It should provide band steering between bands using the same SSID, as this will reduce congestion on 2,4Ghz and force all 5Ghz enable clients to use this band. I had also both setups in the past, one with different SSID and one with the same, and the same SSID is much way better, also as the people that does not have IT knowledge, they choose a band aleatory, and if they choose the 2,4Ghz band with a 5Ghz capable devide, they're congesting the band with no reason. With just one SSID, there's no option for wrong decission. Is there a reason for that? All the other manufacturer routers with the same Broadcom chip, has band steering, so I think there should be no incompatibility issues. Is there any option to set the same SSID? Maybe Smart connect could work with all the three bands, instead of just the 5Ghz bands. Thank you. Regards.Solved10KViews0likes6CommentsR8500 Slow Wifi v1.0.0.56_1.0.28

Hello everyone. So my wireless router is set to wireless AP mode and my modem is on bridge mode, and now I cannot access the internet at all or the router settings to try and fix it. I’ve even tried plugging in an ethernet cord to try and access the router settings but nothing seems to be working and I have no idea how to fix this. Hello I'm new to the forum and hopefully won't make mistakes in creating the discussion. Due to the fact that a SYNOLOGY NAS that I've just bought has some issue at keeping ibernation, I'm now in need of setting up some sort of sub-network in my own LAN to keep devices such as phones and domotic tools in control, so to prevent their broadcast packages to reach my NAS and eventually stopping it from waking up from ibernation. As far as I can see, this can be done via VLAN - But I can't figure out how to make it work on my router (R8500 Nighthawk) Before going on with the explanation, every device on my network is connected directly to the Router, let the connection be wired or wireless, without any sort of switch in the middle so won't have to worry about Layer 3 setups. I would need to put Ports 1, 4, 6 + WiFi 2.4, 5.1 and 5.1(2) into a VLAN with free internet access, while other ports should be on an internal network with internet access but no way to see other devices or to get packets from them. Is this possible? If yes, is there a way to put my PC on port 1 in condition of seeing both VLANs (that ain't a 'must' - but would be easier for me)? Thanks in advance6.7KViews0likes4Comments
