8 TopicsTrouble Setting Up Orbi VPN on Mac OSX
Hello - I tried searching for the answer but none of the search results seemed relevant. I must be missing a step somewhere. Here is what I did: Orbi WiFi has the basic installation complete and set up -- I can log into the orbilogin.com using the default username and password. I go to Orbi Advanced tab, Advanced Setup, DynamicDNS. I have successfully set up a NETGEAR DDNS account and activated it successfully on NOIP.com. As instructed by NOIP, I have download and successfully set up Dynamic Update Client for Mac. I can log into the NOIP dashboard and it shows my mynetgear hostname as active with no errors. Let's just call it MYHOSTNAME01 . MYNETGEAR . COM. I go back into my Orbi Advanced tab, Advanced Setup, DynamicDNS and click “Show Status” and the system shows that I am successfully configured/connected to MYHOSTNAME01 . MYNETGEAR . COM. I go to Orbi Advanced tab, Advanced Setup, VPN Service and click “Enable VPN Service” and keep the defaults for Advanced Configurations “TUN UDP port 12973” and “TAP UDP port 12974”, Clients will use this VPN set to “Auto”. I click apply and I download the FOR MACOSX configuration package. I install Tunnelblick on Mac OSX for Sierra OSX version (latest). I take the FOR MACOSX configuration package and paste the files in "~/Library/Application Support/Tunnelblick/Configurations”. At this point I then take the “client.conf” from the Orbilogin.com dashboard “FOR MACOSX” downloaded configuration package and drag and drop it onto Tunnelblick. I accept all the setup prompts in Tunnelblick and then Tunnelblick creates a “client.tblk” in the same location as all the FOR MACOSX files (again, ~/Library/Application Support/Tunnelblick/Configurations). I click “Connect” in Tunnelblick but no successful connection is made — Tunnelblick times out. I follow the Orbilogin.com instructions for FOR SMART PHONE and try to make a connection from my iPhone and it also times out using the OpenVPN Connect iPhone app. (the app correctly shows the configuration file indicating to connect to "MYHOSTNAME01 . MYNETGEAR . COM / smart_phone". So basically I am demonstrating that I tried installing and testing VPN connectivity to the Orbi VPN service from two different devices (my Mac and my iPhone - neither of which are currently connected to my Orbi WiFi home network). Am I missing a step? Help please.SolvedOpenVPN working after 2.1.4 firmware upgrade?
Hi all, My Orbi system updated itself with the firmware on Saturday afternoon (28th April) and afterward I again downloaded the Mac and iPhone OpenVPN profiles to the respective devices. In subsequent testing, I'm not seeing any device able to establish a VPN connection using OpenVPN. Is anyone seeing differently - ie. is OpenVPN working for you after the firmware upgrade? Thanks!Adding a password to the VPN service?
I just got the VPN service running on my Orbi. It works great, and after a couple hour of playing with the settings, I can now route all internet traffic through the Orbi, which is great when I'm at a cafe somewhere. What makes me extremely worried, though, is that there is no password authentication, which means anybody with the certificate will immediately have access to my internal network (I almost e-mailed the certificate to my wife so she could get it working on her laptop too, before I realized that's more or less the same as sending her my login password in the clear--not a good idea). Is there actually a way to set up the Orbi VPN server to require a password? If not, when will Netgear implement one?Orbi dropping connection using external VPN connections
I have had my RBK50 system since July of this year and the Router and Satellite both have firmware (2.0.0.72) and overall the system and performance have been great. When myself or my wife are using any device that is not going through a VPN there do not seem to be any connection issues. My RBK50 is in router mode and basically an out of the box configuration other than the firmware update. But when either my wife or myself use Cisco Anyconnect to VPN into our respective work networks, the wifi drops it connection frequently and/or the speed slows way down. I have gone through the process of shutting everything done, unplugging the modem, router, satelittle and laptops. We then both restart everything and we still experience frequent network disconnects using the external VPN connections. The only thing that seems to work is when we plug an ethernet cord directly into the router and/or satellite to create a LAN. Any help would be great! How to specify VPN connect to the primary (not guest) network
I set up VPN so I can remotely access resources on my primary network. I discovered (the hard way) that, by default, the VPN tunnel attaches to my guest network -- which doesn't do me any good. Is there a way to tell the Orbi to make the connection to the primary (not guest) network? Thank you.Orbi Dropping VPN Connection
I recently setup the Orbi in my home and I am experiencing frequent VPN drops on my work computer. I am using the Cisco AnyConnect software for the VPN login. I am assuming that the Orbi may be attempting to connect back and forth between the 2.4 and 5 ghz connections causing the VPN connection to drop. Has anyone else experienced this and what can I do to resolve? I am not a networking expert by any means, and my setup was completed based on the base Orbi settings. This is severely impacting my ability to work efficiently from home. Thanks!Way for ORBI to route some devices thru VPN while others do not use VPN
ORBI & VPN services (like Ivacy, HMA, VPN Express..). Is there any way to implement SELECTIVE VPN directly on the ORBI router (wired or wireless)? Looks like presently VPN on ORBI requires/only works with a PC/MAC/Android driven APP. Would like to use VPN right in the router itself only for some devices that need it while others that do not need VPN go around it. Have heard of this as a "gateway" feature on another router. Could just put up a second dedicated router for those devices but would rather not unless I have no choice.... Thoughts ? Suggestions? Thanks. T.How to make sure OpenVPN client is using port 443 on iOS.
I have been playing around OpenVPN on Orbi. I have everything working using the OpenVPN client on my iOS device. The question I have is setting up the port I want to use. My goal is to connect to Orbi on port 443 when I am not on my home network. Is this a matter of just having port forwarding on 443 or does this have to do with the TUN and TAP mode service? I have been trying to understand what TUN and TAP are but I just get confused. Again, I can connect to vpn but I want to make sure I use a specific port. As you can guess, I am trying to use my home internet when on a blocked network when I am away. Thanks for any help you can provided.
