11 TopicsOrbi RBR50 and Slow WiFi Problems with iOS Devices
I’ve been experience a very strange problem with slow WiFi speeds on my iOS devices for a few months now and was wondering if anyone might be able to point me to something to try to fix it. It seems that the problem started when I updated our iPhones and iPads to iOS 11 and has been ongoing ever since. I have spoken with Apple about the issue, but nothing we’ve tried has helped. Things like turning Airplane mode on and off, resetting network settings, re-setting up the iPad/iPhone as a new device, etc. Here’s what happens. When home, the iOS devices act normally and have a good connection to the Orbi system and get full Internet speed (150 Mbps for my service) all over the house. If we then take the iOS devices out of the house and connect to another WiFi network, such as at work, all is still well. The problem starts when we return home. They connect to the WiFi network just fine, but if I perform a speed test, they will show anywhere from about 1 Mbps to about 25 Mbps connections and will not get any better throughput. Also, while this is happening, if you try to use an application that accesses the Internet, it will experience long delays in accessing the information every few minutes. Once the delay is over, everything works as expected, but at the low, and sometimes very low, connection speeds. No amount of fiddling with the iOS devices will correct the situation; however, through the process of elimination I found that restarting the Orbi router gets everything back to working as expected. I can’t for the life of me figure out what could potentially be causing this odd behavior, but would appreciate any insight that someone may have and would be willing to share. This is becoming more and more annoying as time goes on.Orbi iOS v2.1.0.268 Device List problem
Firmware: 2.0.0.76 on RBR50 and RBS50 Updated the iOS Orbi app to v2.1.0.268 and it seems to have broken the Device List option as no devices show. On the previous version 1.6.16, running on another iOS device, they still show. I noticed on the new app I can see the IP address of the Router and Satellite. On the app, the router shows as 192.168.1.1, but should be 192.168.0.212 - the Satellite is properly showing as 192.168.0.213. That may be why the Router cannot see the devices as they are all in the 192.168.0.x number range and the app thinks the router is in 192.168.1.x range???Why no consolidated Orbi app?
Got my new Orbi system up and running and so far, it beats our Gen1 eero and the Amplifi I just returned. Throughput is amazing. HOWEVER the software experience is TERRIBLE. eero and Ammplifi have a simple app that does it all (easily). There's the orbi ios app, netgear genie for some things, openDNS logins for parental controls, etc. Why isn't there a single app that works at home or away and lets you control all settings in one place? That's the one thing I miss about my eero... everything in one (clean) app.RBK40: OSX works great, IOS not
Hello, Yesterday I installed the RBK40. It works great ...... on OSX (macbook pro early 2015 and imac mid 2017). I get the maximum speed: 200 mbps. Ervery where in my house. My ISO-divices (iphone 6, iphone se and new ipad) are connected, but the speed is limited to 40 mbps (while I'm standing near the router). Sometimes I get around 150 mbps on the iphone 6. All devices have the latest IOS. The firmware is up to date: V2.0.0.56. Although, on the site of netgear they mention a diverent firmware: V2.1.1.16. I'm unable to download this firmware. Does anyone has a explenation or a solution?iphone7 not connection to Orbi
Recently, my iPhone7 will not connect or stay connected to my Orbi wifi. It will show that it's connected under the phone's wifi menu w/ full bars, but the top of the home screen only shows "LTE", no wifi bars/symbol. Every other iOS device in my house, including my wife's iPhone7 works flawlessly. I have reset my phone, reset my phone's network settings. Toggled beamforming/mu-mimo on/off, reset the orbi, reset my Spectrum router. All with no luck. In some instances after a reset, the phone WILL connect to wifi. Then a few minutes later drop the connection and will NOT reconnect. It will show connected, but again displaying "LTE" and no wifi bars. Other times it will not connect at all. My orbi also has the current firmware. I am stumped. Currently, I'm at work and my iphone7 connectes to my work wifi with no issues.Bad iOS/Apple Connectivity (solved) and Slow Speeds - Orbi RBR40 - FW v 1.10.1.2
I have owned the Orbi RBR40 home wifi system for approximately 3 weeks. Within the first 30 seconds of being connected I ran a speed test and it showed 150mbps up/down immediately after a ran a subsequent speed test which showed 20 mbps up/down. Since then, all speedtests across all wireless devices run between 5 mbps and 30 mbps up/down. Averaging about 20 mbps. Furthermore it seems like all of my apple devices that were not connected to the wireless network the very first time the Orbi was plugged in were unable to connect to the Orbi system when it was in router mode. I reset the Orbi, changed the SSID, tried connecting to a guest network, and toggled every single setting in order to resolve the issue. Finally, upon consulting these message boards, I took the advice here: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi/FINALLY-got-the-ORBI-not-to-drop-connection/td-p/1223334 and changed my Orbi from Router to AP mode and these apple devices finally connected. At this point I guess I am comfortable not using the Router functions of the Orbi device, but this is still disappointing. Even after getting the apple devices to connect, I am still averaging about 20 mbps up/down accross my wireless devices. My average speeds are as follows: Wired Straight to ATT Fiber Router: avg 800 mbps up/down, peak around 960 mbps Wired Straight to Orbi Main Hub: avg. 600 mbps up, 750 mbps down , peak around 700 mbps up and 900 mbps down Wired Straight to Orbi Satellite: avg. 200 up/down, peak around 300 mbps up/down Wireless Avg: 20 mbps up/down, peak around 30 mbps up/down I think that the loss between Router and main hub is expected (actually probably pretty good) The loss from Hub to Satellite seems a little extreme, but I would reluctantly believe that this is normal The loss from hub/satellite to wireless device cannot be right and I don't know what the cause is. Again, I have toggled every setting on these devices and performed a Wireless Analysis on Mac to determine their suggested channels (2.4: 6,2; 5.4: 44). I am currently running 2.4 on channel 2 and 5.4 on channel 44, though I have toggled through all of them and havent noticed any significant difference. The wireless functionality on my ATT modem/router combo is disabled including all broadcasting functionality Also, i have enabled Beamforming and MUMIMO but don't notice any difference one way or another on the effect on speed. Finally, I initially purchased a router/1 satellite system and installed this, but was not getting the signal strength throughout my house. I acknowledge that this was my fault because I intentionally placed the satellite in an unrecommended location. Since then I purchased a third satellite and placed it in across the house from my router and dropped the power on each band down to 25%. I have a smaller house and was interested in getting the "hardwired" satellite functionality in my home office (close to the router). My speed issues existed prior to adding the additional satellite and since. Even with the power cut to 25% I get strong coverage throughout my home and at a consistent average speed of 20 mbps up/down. Just to make sure interference was not my problem i have run tests of each satellite independently and the router alone. Still looking at 20 mpbs up/down. If there are any suggestions on how to regain some of my speed I would greatly appreciate hearing them.Suggestions to Orbi IOS app - wishlist from users to the app developers
Hi Lets hear it - all your suggestions for app improvements :smileyhappy: 1) Possibility to monitor traffic, and give statistics for each device in the Orbi app: - total data usage for all devices (day/week/month) - total data usage pr device (day/week/month) - current bandwith usage (total/each device) With these features i am able to identify which device use most data, or which device use all bandwith. 2) Control for each individual device: - ability to block (from -> to on daily basis) - max allowed bandwith usage Your inputs???NETGEAR Orbi Apple iOS App
So the Connected Devices finally show up on the app but they all say "WIRED." You guys are really struggling with the app huh? The programming to get this stuff correct is pretty basic. Can you fix the WIRED/WIRELESS issue please? With that said, the hardware is awesome so go Netgear, props.IOS connection problem
I've had my Orbi RBK50 since January. I have had connectivity problems like the rest of you with my IOS iPad and iPhone devices. I have the latest firmware (V1.10.1.2), but the problem keeps getting worse. No!!!, I don't want to use the Orbi as an AP with my old router, I just want it to work like it is supposed to! Netgear has not been of any help. Have they helped you??? Suggestions???Content loading issues over WiFi for Orbi RBR50
Details of devices connected to Orbi: Netgear CM1000 modem supplying the connection Desktop PC hardwired running Windows 10 most recent update Macbook Air (Mid 2013) running latest MacOS Chromecast 2 Android tablets running Nougat 1 iPhone 6 (iOS 10.3.1) 1 iPhone 6s (iOS 10.3.1) I bought the router a RBR50 on 7MAY17 and it was updated to the latest firmware right away (1.9.1.12). I initially set up the router using default settings. All my devices connected with no issues. Speeds were not an issue. However, upon attempting to load content over WiFi on both iOS devices content would not load tried various apps with the same result. It showed network activity but no content was loading. I switched off WiFi and retested over LTE and experienced no issues. I began attempting various fixes. Rebooted router numerous time (no resolution) Renewed and released leases on devices (no resolution) Tried various wireless channels on both the 2.4 and 5Ghz bands (no resolution) Tried various power levels (no resolution) Disabled Beamforming (no resolution) Disabled MU-MIMO (no resolution) Disconnected my Orbi and reconnected my previous wireless router a D-Link 850L and the issue was resolved. I want to like this router because of the good range and extremely good speeds but having to jump through all these hoops to get functionality is extremely tedious and disappointing due to the price. I hope this can be resolved. Any help would be greatly appreciated.Solved
