I bought a refurbished C6300, so the serial# is removed from the Product Label. There was an insert in the box that said to go to the Advanced Settings and provide the ISP (Cox, in my case) with the serial# and MAC address from the Cable Information pane. I provided that MAC address to the ISP, but they couldn't see it. Taking a chance, I gave them the MAC address from the Internet Port pane, which happened to match what was on the Product Label, and it worked. Yesterday, I was without internet service, and through troubleshooting, I saw that the MAC address on in the Internet Port pane was different -- I compared it to the Product Label, and yup, they're different now. Anyway, getting the ISP to provision for this new MAC got me up and connected again. Why are there 2 MAC addresses on the device? Which one should the ISP be able to see? Why did the MAC for the Internet Port change? This device is really slow, from a boot perspective, but I like it. I'm looking for answers so that I don't have to return it. Thanks in advance.4.2KViews0likes5CommentsEnabling Remote Access To Home Network
Hey all, I'm trying to setup my C3700-N600 router to allow me to remotely access the iMac on my home network from outside of my network - i.e., I'm trying to access it from my campus laboratory. I've scoured at least 30 or 40 sites now and none have given me a straightforward way to do this that doesn't include setting up something like the genie app. Port forwarding steps and MAC addresses are what I'm expecting the answer to contain (unless there's another way). A little background: I'm attempting to use Back to My Mac from my Macbook to remotely access my iMac at home. I've already configured my iMac and Back to My Mac so that it works when I'm on my home network. Thanks!2.8KViews0likes1CommentNETGEAR Support is a JOKE! Terrible! Need help optimizing Nighthawk AC1900 C7000 for Mac.
Switched out the Comcast Arris Gateway for this new Nighthawk AC1900 Model C7000. Internet service has slowed down significantly. Called Netgear 3 times - waited over 45 minutes before I hung up. I did get through one time, but the rep must have cut off the call after 3 minutes. Tried to chat, but the chat operator was a jerk. All I want is a way to optimize the performance of this router on my MAC - maybe some steps to try and improve it. Anyone have tips?3.7KViews1like2Comments
