I have an R9000 and an iMac configured as a file server. Also have a separate MacBook Pro. I've configured file sharing, screen sharing and 'Back to My Mac', in order to access the iMac when I'm not connected to my home network. It works. However, when I am not in my home network, the service is very slow. I checked the configuration on the MacBook Pro when outside of the home network, and to the right of the 'Back to My Mac' icon (in iCloud configuration), a cautionary message appears: 'Back to My Mac may be slow because NAT Port Mapping (NAT-PMP) or Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) is turned off on your router. Turn on NAT-PMP or UPnP.' My UPnP is turned on. Any ideas for what I might do differently? Any different configurations on the R9000? BTW I've already cleaned keychain, turned Back to My Mac and Sharing off and on as well as re-installed the entire OS on the iMac. I've also attempted to setup port forwarding for every port Apple indicates is used by the service Back to My Mac, which shouldn't be necessary since it uses UPnP but I tried it anyway, without success. Once again, I have the service working - it is just very slow (especially the file sharing). Thanks for any ideas!Solved3.3KViews0likes2CommentsHP4050 IP-based laser printer stopped working after Orbi upgrade
So - totally thrilled with the new WiFi coverage and speeds throughout the house, BUT, our workhorse HP 4050 can no longer be printed to from any of our Mac systems! The printer was initially set at 10.0.1.100 when it was working on the old network -- I changed it to follow the new Orbi router IP (192.168.1.1) - so the printer is now a fixed IP at 192.168.1.250 - but it refuses to print. I've deleting the old printer profile on two Macs and setting up new ones using the Line Printer Daemon - LPD setting, it just spins and spins forever when trying to "setting up"... and never successfully prints anything anymore. Hoping someone can help.SolvedR9000 problem - Cannot connect network drive located on a Mac for use in Plex
Hello. I have successfully set up a new R9000 router. I am unable to connect a shared network drive for use in Plex. I am able to successfully connect a shared drive located on a PC running Win7, but I am unable to attach a shared drive on a Mac running High Sierra. The Genie interface does not give me a specific error. It just loads a new blank page for entry of a network drive. There is no specific info in the log, just that the drive failed to mount. I found one similar thread here, but there was no solution there. I can’t be the only one trying to attach a Mac drive. I’m hoping someone can point me in the right direction. Thanks!Solved7.9KViews0likes22CommentsMacBook Pro Looses Connection -- Reconnecting Solves It
Hey guys; Just wanted to check in. My RBK50 with 2 sats is much more stable since the last firmware release. My last remaining problem seems to be with my Apple laptops. Connection dies at random (still connected, but no throughput). This might be tied to the Mac going to sleep -- still trying to sort that out. All I need to do to fix it is disconnect from WiFi and reconnect. Bingo. Just posting this in case it is helpful for support/engineering. Orbi guys -- it's been a rough couple of months, but I know your engineers are working like crazy to make things better. Please let them know that we appreciate the ongoing efforts. Thanks, MarkC6300 MAC Addresses
I bought a refurbished C6300, so the serial# is removed from the Product Label. There was an insert in the box that said to go to the Advanced Settings and provide the ISP (Cox, in my case) with the serial# and MAC address from the Cable Information pane. I provided that MAC address to the ISP, but they couldn't see it. Taking a chance, I gave them the MAC address from the Internet Port pane, which happened to match what was on the Product Label, and it worked. Yesterday, I was without internet service, and through troubleshooting, I saw that the MAC address on in the Internet Port pane was different -- I compared it to the Product Label, and yup, they're different now. Anyway, getting the ISP to provision for this new MAC got me up and connected again. Why are there 2 MAC addresses on the device? Which one should the ISP be able to see? Why did the MAC for the Internet Port change? This device is really slow, from a boot perspective, but I like it. I'm looking for answers so that I don't have to return it. I have owned the Orbi RBR40 home wifi system for approximately 3 weeks. Within the first 30 seconds of being connected I ran a speed test and it showed 150mbps up/down immediately after a ran a subsequent speed test which showed 20 mbps up/down. Since then, all speedtests across all wireless devices run between 5 mbps and 30 mbps up/down. Averaging about 20 mbps. Furthermore it seems like all of my apple devices that were not connected to the wireless network the very first time the Orbi was plugged in were unable to connect to the Orbi system when it was in router mode. I reset the Orbi, changed the SSID, tried connecting to a guest network, and toggled every single setting in order to resolve the issue. Finally, upon consulting these message boards, I took the advice here: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi/FINALLY-got-the-ORBI-not-to-drop-connection/td-p/1223334 and changed my Orbi from Router to AP mode and these apple devices finally connected. At this point I guess I am comfortable not using the Router functions of the Orbi device, but this is still disappointing. Even after getting the apple devices to connect, I am still averaging about 20 mbps up/down accross my wireless devices. My average speeds are as follows: Wired Straight to ATT Fiber Router: avg 800 mbps up/down, peak around 960 mbps Wired Straight to Orbi Main Hub: avg. 600 mbps up, 750 mbps down , peak around 700 mbps up and 900 mbps down Wired Straight to Orbi Satellite: avg. 200 up/down, peak around 300 mbps up/down Wireless Avg: 20 mbps up/down, peak around 30 mbps up/down I think that the loss between Router and main hub is expected (actually probably pretty good) The loss from Hub to Satellite seems a little extreme, but I would reluctantly believe that this is normal The loss from hub/satellite to wireless device cannot be right and I don't know what the cause is. Again, I have toggled every setting on these devices and performed a Wireless Analysis on Mac to determine their suggested channels (2.4: 6,2; 5.4: 44). I am currently running 2.4 on channel 2 and 5.4 on channel 44, though I have toggled through all of them and havent noticed any significant difference. The wireless functionality on my ATT modem/router combo is disabled including all broadcasting functionality Also, i have enabled Beamforming and MUMIMO but don't notice any difference one way or another on the effect on speed. Finally, I initially purchased a router/1 satellite system and installed this, but was not getting the signal strength throughout my house. I acknowledge that this was my fault because I intentionally placed the satellite in an unrecommended location. Since then I purchased a third satellite and placed it in across the house from my router and dropped the power on each band down to 25%. I have a smaller house and was interested in getting the "hardwired" satellite functionality in my home office (close to the router). My speed issues existed prior to adding the additional satellite and since. Even with the power cut to 25% I get strong coverage throughout my home and at a consistent average speed of 20 mbps up/down. Just to make sure interference was not my problem i have run tests of each satellite independently and the router alone. Still looking at 20 mpbs up/down. If there are any suggestions on how to regain some of my speed I would greatly appreciate hearing them.WARNING! GENIE APP MAY DAMAGE YOUR IPHONE! (and Mac ?)
Genie is a disaster! It has been updated now on iOS several times since I installed it on my iPhone and it seams it has gone from acceptable to unbelievable bad. The Genie app on my MacBook Pro is also the weirdest app that you can imaging! On my iPhone 6s with 64GB running 9.3.1 the app prevents my phone from going into standby and creating an extremely HOT phone! What kind of Guiding Light has written that app!!! It can seriously harm your phone! I am really angry about this kind of weird crapp! On my Macbook Pro it is most likely the same. The (cr) app has a huge impact on energy consumption and it sets your CPU in overdrive! I did not check how HOT my CPU got on my MacBook but Netgear should Get rid of this kind of complete obsolete apps! I think everybody that uses these 2 apps should be aware of the damage that it can cause simply by overheating your device! Delete it! Destroy it! Get Rid of it!4.3KViews0likes2CommentsR7500v2 Using the Netgear app on iMac
I am happy with my Netgear dual Freq router. I live in a community that built its own Internet access for residents. 1GB. I get about 970MB down and 980 UP. My qyuestion is about the Netgear app that I can use to monitor the router, change setting, i.e. manage it remotely. I am using it on a cable connected ethernet connection to my router, and the app comes up when I reboot. I really don't need it in the background and whenever I try to exit the app gracefully by clicking on the icon on the upper bar, and selecting exit. It brings up a screen that asks if I really want to exit. I click YES. It never goes away. I finally have to "FORCE QUIT" to remove it. Anyone else know a better way? iMac running OS X El Capitan 10.11.6.Solved3.9KViews0likes2CommentsOrbi RBR40 L2TP Odd Behavior
Strange one here. I connect to a small business via L2TP VPN. My iOS devices connect just fine. My Mac OS X and Windows 10 devices cannot connect. This throws me. Why are the mobile devices working while the full-fledged devices aren't? Obviously, I'm able to reach the remote server from those devices, so the Orbi appears to be doing what it should. Any clue?problem with wireless adapter WG111v3
Yesterday, after an unlucky fall, my MacBook Pro's wifi integrated hardware broke. By the way I realized that I've a wifi adapter somewhere, found it, I've tried to connet it to my MacBook, I've download the driver from here - http://www.netgear.it/support/product/WG111v3.aspx?cid=wmt_netgear_organic#CompatibilityandAddingDevices_CommonTopics - the description sais "OSx 10.5", I've 10.10 and after had installed the driver, it doesen't work. Does the adapter's really compatible with Mac ? Do I have to find another driver ? Thank youSolved3.6KViews0likes2Comments
