I am putting my Comcast XB7 modem/router in to bridge mode and connecting to an Orbi 370 I am doing this to avoid the Comcast router not doing port forwarding even though I set that up in the Xfinity app The XB7 has several Ethernet ports. I have one that goes to a Verizon micro-cell and another that goes to some old vintage commercial computers. So I want to put a simple Net Gear switch at the main Orbi's Ethernet port. Is that going to be a problem? I need the three Orbis to be upstairs, so I have a long cat 5 to the vintage equipment in the basement. So 1) Is there any issue anyone is aware of to put in a port forward to ports 22 and 23 with a switch in-line? 2) Can I have one vintage computer be port forwarded to via two different ports? 3) Is anyone aware of Comcast "features" such as their "advanced security" getting in the way of this?102Views0likes2CommentsMore Printer Problems with an RBE371 Mesh Network
I've been having a problem with my new Netgear Orbi RBE371 mesh network since I installed it on Saturday. I have two printers, an Epson ET-8500 and a Brother MFC-L3770CDW. Until Saturday I was using an older Google Mesh network with no problems. I was able to print with no problems to both printers from my Macbook, my iPad and my iPhone. I upgraded to the Netgear Orbi mesh network. That's when my troubles began with these printers. I would be able to print to both printers from my Mac and then several minutes later my laptop couldn't connect to them. They still appear in the network and in the print settings on the laptop, but when sending a job the print queue would say it was unable to communicate with the printer. They also appear in the router web page when I display all the connected devices. Furthermore, my iPad can't even find the printers anymore. The first things I tried were to rejoin the printers to the network as well as my laptop and turn off / on the wifi on my laptop. This met with a little bit of temporary success, but then stopped working again within 30 minutes. I then set static IP addresses for each printer to make sure they won't change. The problem still occurred. Then I found an article that stated the Channel for the 2.4Ghz network needs to be between 1 and 11. This router goes between 1 and 13 and was set to Auto. So I set the channel to 11. The problem still continues. At this point I'm not sure what else I can do to solve this problem. I can't seem to find any other information that can help me with this. Is there anything else I can do to try and fix this problem?Solved290Views0likes19CommentsOrbi 370 Satellite Speed is bad
I thought I was upgrading from my RBR50 and 1 satellite that died by getting the Orbi 370 and 1 satellite. Wow was I wrong. I have 500 speed fiber. Wireless that sees the router gets great speed, same as my old RBR50. The satellite barely breaks 150 up and down. The RBR50 satellite would push at least 350 or more. The router and satellite are in the same exact locations in my house as the RBR50 was. I did the install by the book and made no changes to the basic or advanced settings. Is the 370 just an inferior product? Are there settings I should change to get back to the speeds I had with the RBR50 satellite? If this can't be resolved easily. I'm returning the 370 and tring another brand mesh system207Views0likes10CommentsConfused by legacy network extenders still connecting
hi would appreciate some advice I am UK based, with vodafone fibre 500 connection. Recently purchased orbi 370 with 1 base unit and 2 satalites to replace the vodafone default router and vodafone extender With the default set up my SSID was vodafoneXXXXXX and for devices connected to the extender it was the same vodafoneXXXXXX_EXT (with the _EXT being additional). It was a true extender and not a mesh system as i had to manually set devices to either the main router or the extender (albeit they shared the same password). Vodafone also offer 5G back and the SSID vodafoneXXXXXXX_5GEXT also used to appear on my selectable networks albeit i never connected anything to it So this weekend i installed by new Orbi 370 set up, using the wizard on the app. All pretty straightforward i followed the instructions and used the previous vodafone SSID and password to save having to reset all my devices. Everything went seamlessly the only tricky items were 2X desktop PC's which detected the change somehow and i just had to re-enter the password to rejoin. Now what is really strange is that despite the old vodafone router and extender being unplugged and in a cupboard the SSID's vodafoneXXXXXX_EXT and vodafoneXXXXX_5GEXT are still appearing on the networks list as joinable on multiple devices (computers, phones, consoles etc.) Stranger still is that many devices are default connecting to _EXT despite this extender not being there..... and even more strange is that when i force devices off _EXT and onto the 'main' network they keep disconnecting. This computer I am typing on now connected by default to _EXT this morning. I forced it to forget the _EXT network and join the vodafoneXXXXX network which is does for a bit but then drops connection and asks for the password again. After multiple attempts to join vodafoneXXXXXX I have given up now and reconnected to vodafoneXXXXXX_EXT and the connection is solid. So bizarre Interestingly when the PC is connected to vodafoneXXXXXX it is at 5GHz, when connected to vodafoneXXXXXX_EXT it is at 2.4Ghz Other than this strange issue with the computer needing to be connected to _EXT everything seems to be working OK its just bizarre that the _EXT network is still visible and connectable Can anyone explain what is going on?624Views0likes41CommentsNew Orbi 370 RBE371 can't connect to Google Home
12/2025 Installed a new Orbi 370 today. Got most devices connected. Tried a bunch of times to get the Google Home connected. The chromecast works. I enter the SSID and password into the Google Home app so it can set the Home's network and I see "Connection problem during setup". Rebooted Orbi. Reinstalled Home. I tried the normal and IOT networks on Orbi. I changed the IOT network to just 2.4 ghz. Nada. The home has been working with linksys I am replacing. The home is about 5 years old. Just upgraded my home wifi to Orbi RBE371 with one satellite. Previously I had an asus zenwifi mesh system. Firmware is V12.1.3.11_5.1.12 Everything is working pretty much as expected, very happy with performance so far. One really weird issue, it's not a huge deal but I don't understand what's going on. I have three raspberry pis on my network, one is connected via ethernet, one is wifi only, and one is connected via both ethernet and wifi. When I ssh into them from an wifi-connected host, and then look at "w" or "last", I expect to see the ip address of my (e.g.) laptop, and that's what I saw before. However, now what I actually see as the "from" address is the *external* ip address of the Orbi, but only when I am sshing from a wifi-connected host to an ethernet port on the raspberry pi. In all other cases (wifi to wifi, ethernet to wifi, ethernet to ethernet) I see the expected "From" address. example: sshing from my laptop (192.168.0.50) to ethernet pi3: $ w 12:23:47 up 1 day, 4:36, 1 user, load average: 0.21, 0.20, 0.18 USER TTY FROM LOGIN@ IDLE JCPU PCPU WHAT user pts/0 10.0.0.111 12:23 0.00s 0.44s 0.05s w ssh from same laptop to wifi-connected pi5: $ w 12:26:14 up 6:30, 2 users, load average: 1.55, 1.54, 1.53 USER TTY FROM LOGIN@ IDLE JCPU PCPU WHAT user pts/1 192.168.0.50 12:25 3.00s 0.07s 0.01s w user pts/0 192.168.0.50 11:18 1:07m 0.03s 0.03s -bash and in the "last" output, I can see where this changed (which is exactly after I switched from the old Asus system to the new Netgear system). user pts/0 10.0.0.111 Mon Dec 1 08:24 - 08:28 (00:03) user pts/0 192.168.0.50 Sun Nov 30 06:33 - 06:37 (00:04) Again, this isn't a huge problem, it's just me on this network and functionally everything else seems to be fine, just wondering what is causing this.230Views0likes8CommentsCan’t communicate between wireless bands on a satellite
Really disappointed with brand new 373 +2 satellite kit. Hoping I’ve made a rookie mistake but… My issue seems to be specific to satellites. Client devices on the same SSID can’t communicate between the bands despite being on the same SSID and ip subnet. I’m not using the iot ssid. So if I have something connected to the 5 GHz band on the satellite, and something connected to the 2.4 GHz band on the same satellite, they can’t communicate with each other - pings timeout. Whereas, everything on the 5ghz on the satellite can talk to each other and everything on the 2.4ghz can talk to each other fine. And, Communicating to other devices connected to the router or on another satellite is fine too. This renders the mesh pretty useless in a modern connected house. My laptop can’t connect to the printer, I can connect to some things and not others, it’s just pretty useless. Anyone else seeing this? Do I have a setting wrong? I don’t seem to have the same issue between clients on different bands connected to the router. So it seems like a satellite specific issue. thanks!182Views0likes13CommentsOrbi and Private Relay on iOS and MacOS
We are in the process of trying to upgrade from an older Orbi RBR50v2 setup to a new RBE371 wifi 7 system. The main reason is that Private Relay from iCloud+ stopped recently working and we have to turn it off for our devices and apps to make it out onto the internet. I thought by upgrading to the newest system and standards it would solve the issue, but we're still having the same issue and have to disable Private Replay on both iPhones and Macs to be able to receive data. This is a new and recent issue. We've tested at other houses with the same ISP but different equipment and Private Relay works fine. Is Orbi no longer compatible with Private Relay?160Views0likes5CommentsORBI 370 Poor Download Speeds
Hi - Just replaced my 8 year old ORBI RBR50WiFi 5 system. My WiFi speeds are no better most of the time than with that older model. Have 2 satellites, each on a different floor from my router and exactly where the old system was set up. I have 1GB fiber, get close to that wired and very occasionally on my iPhone 16 Pro when I am next to the router. Speeds vary from 300-400 down/100-300 up when I am more than 10 feet away or on a different floor from the router (closer to satellites). Netgear has had me set the channels to 161 and 11, force the firmware upgrade manually (after doing the auto one), and completely reset the system with the paper clip. Nothing helps consistently after being at this for a week. There are about 20 WiFi networks near me (standalone house in a city), but I have never had any major issues with interference. No one else is on the channels I am on. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.533Views0likes24Comments
