Found on the RBR and RBS IP address/debug.htm web page for best details, please post both RBR and RBS uptime. Please note of any inconsistencies between the RBR and RBS. Generally the RBR and RBS uptime should be same. Home wide power brown outs should be noted if these are seen. So, I just moved from an older Linksys Gen 2 mesh system. It was pretty solid but wife wanted greater speeds for her work. So, I just upgraded to the Orbi 870. When I log into my OrbiNet, it states the router is an RBE 871 but the two satellites are 870s. See Firmware state above. My house is 2 story / 3400 sq ft. The router is in the first floor laundry room, middle west side of the house. It's where the network and cable panel is. The first satellite is in the front office - first floor of the house (south side). The second satellite is upstairs in the middle bedroom right up the stairs on the east side of the house. I have like 60 lifx bulbs and other IOT devices that need 2.4 GHz. Also, I have a variety of 5 GHz devices like laptops, media, and portable computers. Almost 90 devices in total. I don't think I am saturating the 2.4 GHz band or even coming close the point with the 5/6 GHz bands either. Using their app to test both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. OK, I literally just set this system up from new last night. Seemed like everything went well, at first, including adding the satellites. I tried ethernet back haul at first but I'll get into more of that later. My provider is XFinity and I am getting great speed from the Cable Modem to the 871 router. Not that it matters, perhaps, but I went to the 192.168.1.x IP "standard" from the 10.x.x.x. I also have a couple devices that I want reserved IPs for. Just three of them. Also, I changed the name of the router, set up my 2.4 GHZ (only) IOT and turned on IPV 6 (DHCP) pretty much left everything else standard. Rebooted the router. When I went to my device connections in OrbiNet (192.168.1.1) and checked both Basic - Attached Devices, and Advanced - Administration - Attached Devices, I saw both satellites (with IP addresses), then all my devices. Then I noticed some strange behavior. When I was going through my devices and making sure they reattached to the networks (using the same SSID / PW as I did on the old Linksys mesh), I noticed that the satellites had no IPs. Just 0.0.0.0. I also noticed that when I clicked out of those pages and tried to go back in, it just spun. I let it spin for almost an hour. Most likely timed out. So, I rebooted. It did the same thing after about 15-20 minutes. However, in the Orbi app on my Android, it shows the system online and 2 of 2 Satellites. When I go to Network Map as part of that app, it also shows they are "online" but when I click on them, no devices are present - but I know their are devices connected. Also I noticed that it had both Satellites connected to the router in a split configuration. Now, typing this it's linear. Sat2 connected to Sat2 and then to the router. WTF. Using the anayltics tool on the app... I dislike the app, other than the WiFi analytics and that I had to use it to set this all up. I used it to measure my signal strength and speed for the 2.4 GHz IOT SSID. I was at 88-100% most everywhere in the house. So, no problems there. I had this system setup for ethernet back haul but decided to just disconnect them from the wall and let them WiFi back haul. I did connect my desktops directly to them via ethernet with the ports on the back of Sat1 and Sat2. Long story short, I did a complete reset on the Router and Sats. Set it all up again from the app, and I am still seeing the Sats drop off from the orbinet and I can't see my connected devices. I see my router has a different FW then the satellites. Perhaps I should downgrade that to the same FW? I don't see any updates for the Sats, so I am hoping that the NG Engineers tested this?!? I think my setup is pretty vanilla - I am sure there are people with more devices then me, assuradly. Note that I did go to manual firmware update and was able to IP connect to both Sat1 and Sat2. Strange since the main page doesn't show that. I can also see devices connected but it doesn't look like a all the devices are accounted for between the Sats or the main Router. Yes, I checked the logs. I don't see any reference to what happened. Anyway, this is pissing me off quite a bit. Everytime I have to make a change with these things, it's like a minimum of a 10 minute wait. It's like I am 7 years old again loading Snake Eggs off a tape drive with my TRS-80. Come on man... I'd rather NOT do a full factory reset if I don't have to. Maybe I'll try to do the firmware downgrade on the router to match the Sats? Any help will be appreciated. Bug Fixes: 06/03/2025 Resolved an issue that prevented iphone 16 from connecting to the Orbi network Resolved an issue that caused the router to crash after a firmware update. Download Link: https://www.netgear.com/support/product/rbe872/#download Firmware Update Instructions: To update your router’s firmware, follow the instructions in your router’s user manual. To view your router’s user manual, visit https://www.netgear.com/support/product/RBE871.aspx#docs IF MANUALLY UPDATING THE SYSTEM: Be sure to update the RBS FIRST, then the RBR lastly. Please navigate to the link below for step-by-step instructions on how to update your RBR871/RBS870: Proceedure to Manually Firmware Update Orbi and Nighthawk Mesh systems I HIGHLY recommend after the FW is loaded on the system and it's back to ready, power OFF all Orbi units and the ISP modem/ONT for 1 minute. Then back ON with the ISP modem/ONT first, then RBR then RBS. NOTE: Orbi app or the routers web page may not report seeing new FW updates. NG may not push this to there auto update services immediately and may activate the newer FW update being seen on there auto update services at a later time. User will have the choice to manually update if you want too. FW UPDATE ALL Feature: If there is a FW updated seen on the RBRs web page and all RBS are online and connected with GOOD STATUS, you can select the UPDATE ALL button option to have the RBR update the RBS and RBR. Update All button is seen on the RBRs Firmware Update WEB page on the Check for Updates FW section of the page. Once FW has been checked for an update and all devices show the FW update is available, select the UPDATE ALL button. Give 5 minutes for the process to take place. Recommend powering OFF the Orbi system for 1 minute then back ON with the RBR first then RBS after Update All completes. Give 5-10 minutes for system to fully come to ready. NOTE: If continued problems are seen after a FW update, it's recommended to try a factory reset and setup from scratch with out loading any saved configurations from backup files. Use the ERASE button on the routers web page to factory reset the router: This sends a Factory Reset command to any and all connected RBS as well: Procedure for Factory Reset of RBE870 series systems use ERASE Button This article applies to: Orbi (7) RBE870 RBE870B RBE871 RBE871B RBE872 RBE873 RBE873B Let us know how it works for you...Please make a new post regarding any problems your seeing in the Orbi BE support forums. https://community.netgear.com/category/home-orbi/discussions/en-home-orbi-be213Views0likes0CommentsOrbi 870 WAN performance
Hi Netgear team, I’ve recently purchased the Orbi 870 system, primarily due to its advertised support for 10Gbps WAN connections. I’m currently on a 10Gbps fibre plan and have the Orbi connected directly to the ONT using a certified Cat7 cable. The port negotiates at 10Gbps full duplex, and all hardware in the chain supports 10Gbps. However, I’ve noticed that the internal speed test built into the Orbi consistently caps out at around 4.5Gbps, regardless of time of day or test server. I understand that the Orbi 870 only has 2.5Gbps LAN ports and that wireless speeds have their own limitations that’s expected. But since the test is run directly from the router, I had assumed it would be able to at least demonstrate close to full WAN throughput (e.g. 8–9Gbps), especially on such a fast connection. My setup: Orbi 870 Router (latest firmware) 10Gbps fibre connection Cat7 cable from ONT to Orbi 870’s 10GbE WAN port WAN port confirmed as 10Gbps full duplex Internal speed test peaking at ~4.5Gbps consistently Firewalla Pro removed from inline during testing ISP speed tests from ONT are at advertised speed. My questions: Is the Orbi 870 hardware limited in terms of how much WAN throughput it can process internally? Is there a CPU bottleneck or lack of hardware acceleration that prevents the internal speed test from reaching full 10Gbps? Should users expect that the 10Gbps port is more of a marketing spec than an actual performance threshold? Would appreciate any clarification from the Netgear team or other users who’ve tested this in a similar setup117Views0likes11CommentsHelp save my marriage 🤣
Heys guys Sky Q Sky hub 4.2 orbi rbr850 with 2 satellites. so I’ve tried to get this working myself but the tech terminology has me frazzled. As sky doesn’t allow bridge mode I put my Orbi in AP mode and turned off the WiFi on sky hub. Now I get full signal but internet very slow to load any webpage,YouTube etc it works but so slow. i have 3 gamers in the house and finding great difficulty getting access to play games online. i followed a few videos to open ports but I must’ve done something wrong along the way. i want to test it out tonite and was thinking a factory reset of sky hub and Orbi would be best as fresh install. anyone have any tips of step by step guide to get this up and running properly. i have 2 satellites and one is hard wired and other is upstairs and has good wireless bakhaul. i can provide screens of my setup if that helps? The wife is getting agitated so help is greatly appreciated thanks guys Dave93Views0likes23CommentsOrbi RBE873 - Missing Attached Devices After Reboot or Power Loss
Continuation of reddit discusion: Hey everyone, I recently upgraded from an RBK353 (which worked flawlessly) to the RBE873, and I’m running into a recurring issue. After a factory reset, everything works fine — full device list, solid performance. But after a few reboots (manual or due to power loss), the system stops showing connected devices properly, both in the web interface and the Orbi app. Here’s what happens: One satellite (connected via Ethernet) shows up normally with an IP in the "Attached Devices" list. The second satellite (wireless backhaul) shows up with IP 0.0.0.0. However, if I manually enter its previous IP in a browser, I can access its local admin page — it shows a proper link to the main router, an IP address, and even a list of client devices connected to it. The main "Attached Devices" view in the app or web GUI reports that I have 13 devices connected, but only 9 are listed — and I actually have around 25 devices online. For example, my phone is connected and working fine on the network, but it doesn’t appear in the list. I’m running firmware V10.5.19.4_1.1.27, and no updates are shown as available. A reboot doesn’t fix the issue — only a full factory reset and fresh setup resolves it temporarily. But after a few more restarts, the problem comes back. Anyone else seeing something similar or found a fix? Answer from furrynutz (was that you FURRYe38 ?): What browser are you using when viewing the RBRs web page? Happens in other browsers? And me again - that message was shadodbanned: Wow, thanks for the detailed response! Here's the info: Browser: Chrome on Windows and Chrome on Android Mobile platform: Android Connected devices: Around 25 total — 7 via Ethernet, 18 on WiFi (mostly 2.4GHz IoT devices) Missing devices: -- For example, three phones (Galaxy S25 Ultra, Pixel 7, iPhone 16 Pro), one tablet (Tab S8+), and several WiFi light bulbs — all of which are connected to WiFi and working fine, but not shown in the device list Time after power loss: -- After the last factory reset, everything was working fine until yesterday -- There was a power outage around midday. Now, over 30 hours later, the Orbi app still shows only 11 devices -- At the same time, a network scan with WiFiMan shows 25 active devices -- Previously, I waited three days without improvement and ended up doing another factory reset Firmware update: I performed the update automatically during the initial setup. I didn’t monitor the update order between satellites and the router, but the firmware version is the same across all units ISP modem: It's a Halny fiber router from my ISP, with WiFi disabled. My previous Orbi RBK353 worked perfectly with it for years Cable: The ISP device and the RBE873 router are connected using a Cat6 cable Home size: ~120 m² (approx. 1290 sq ft) Satellite placement: -- One satellite is wired and located about 7m / 23ft from the router, separated by a reinforced concrete slab and one thick masonry wall -- The second satellite (wireless backhaul) is ~10m / 33ft away, also through a thick masonry wall -- The main router is in the middle With satellites turned off: I haven’t tried running the system with the satellites turned off yet — I can test that Wired vs wireless: The issue seems to affect only wireless devices — wired ones always show up correctly MAC randomization: Disabled on all Android phones and tablets while at home Features disabled: -- Armor: off -- Smart Parental Controls: off -- IPv6: off (not supported by ISP) -- Traffic Meter: off Access Control: Enabled, but set to default mode — allow all new devices One more thing - I turned off Acces Control, but that changed nothing. So, yesterday I was working with a few electric devices at my home, so I had a few power cycles on the whole home, including Orbi. Today, the Orbi app and web UI show 13 devices, but about 23 are connected at the moment (wired and wireless) - it's not showing my phone or tablet, which are definitely connected and have access to the Internet.90Views0likes1Comment
