45 TopicsTerrible Support, many problems
I have had an Orbi RBE871 and 2 RBE870 satellites for almost a year. They have never worked all that well, especially for cell phone calls via Wi-Fi, which we need because we have almost no local cell coverage. I have opened many cases. Invariably they end up getting cut off (due to poor cell coverage), then I get phone mails that they tried calling too many times and are closing the case. Most of the time I get "thank you for holding, a technician will be with you shortly"... for hours. My most recent problem (along with the poor cell wi-fi, that they have never fixed), is that the administration app (both on the phone and on my PC) do not show many attached devices, not even the cell phone or PC that is connected to the RBE871. The technicians are clueless, cannot find any problem or any suggestions for how to resolve the problem, then we lose the call, etc.91Views0likes4CommentsWhen IPV6 would drop on my 2 google tv devices
Ironically, I also had the same issue with my iOS devices on wifi plus 2 google tv streamers that weren't hooked up directly to the main router, but connected directly to the satellite in each room. I bought the Obi RBE871 back in November of 2025. I listened to all the advice here like disabling ipv6 and turning off wifi assist on my phones. I already always kept Mac randomizers off on my devices and I always set my wifi channels to 1 & 48 and not auto. When my network was ipv4 only, I felt like the drops were even worse with ipv6 and everything else turned off. I have Comcast 1.2 gig speed internet. I started to realize that I needed to figure out how to get ipv6 working with Comcast. Like I said, I had issues when IPV6 was on but not as bad as ipv4 only. I noticed that every time the router renewed its lease that's when IPV6 would drop on my 2 google tv devices. Through some research I learned that Comcast used DHCP 6. The only way I could originally get a LAN & WAN address was by using auto detect in the ipv6 settings. Overtime I realized the Comcast ipv6 dns servers were not populating. So my next move was to use CloudFlare or Google ipv6 dns servers. Things started to move in the right direction. So now that I had populated the addresses in autodetect, I then switched it to DHCP6 in the ipv6 router settings and readded the CloudFlare ipv6 dns servers and added a 1 in the user class field. Since I did this, everything has been working as it should. The google 4k streamers would normally disconnect after 12 hours no matter what, now everything stays on. My recommendation is to reach out to your ISP and see if they can walk you through setting up IPV6 the right way. Good Luck!Orbi RBE871 not recognizing all devices on Wifi
Our network worked fine until a few weeks ago. (We have a router and one RBE870 satellite.) Now it's not showing all devices as being connected, even when they are connected. I can look in the app and see the device listed, but it says Offline, even though I can go on the device itself and see it's online. We're getting randomly kicked off the network on our ipads while we're working on them. I thought it was just the iOS devices, but it's affecting a Dell desktop computer, one of our HP printers, and 2 of our 3 garage doors, for example. The router's firmware is up-to-date (v. 10.5.20.4). Any ideas how I can fix this?Solved391Views0likes11CommentsWeb site Accessibility...Orbi BE systems
Anyone noticing any issues with accessing visited web sites with a wireless or wired PC connecting to Orbi systems with newest FW version loaded? Looking for anything in particular that stands out with seeing any 404 Errors or ERR_CONNECTION_CLOSED in a browser. Seen across other browsers? http://printables.com maybe one site. Any other sites that is giving issues, please post the details and site URL. ISP DNS or custom DNS used. IPv6 enabled or disabled. ISP service hardware details as well. Thank you.208Views0likes9CommentsInconsistent connectivity on LAN
I have inconsistent behavior when trying to ping or ssh across devices that are all on the same WLAN. Is this a known behavior? I have an 871 router and 4x 870 satellites running firmware V10.5.20.4_1.3.5. General connectivity to the Internet is fine and the mesh systems are all within recommended distances. Running "arp -an" yields a mix of (incomplete) and some actual valid mac entries. No local firewalls (ufw) running or Mac OS WiFi MAC randomization/security is enabled. Some days I can ping/ssh across and some days I can't, so this must be some just weird netgear behavior not a concrete setting on my devices. It's super random, I can ping some devices that are 2 satellites away, but can't ping or connect to other devices that are in the same room.185Views0likes4CommentsThe scammers persist
I contacted Netgear support sousing their chat function. Then”person”: gave me a number to called to get an “expert”. The actual problem was an HP printer dropping connections. Ingot passed to the expert, and it turned out to be N Solutions, a scam that’s been reported in the Netgear forums. I was stupid - he was mumbling about network overload coming from my laptop, slimed to fix it by turning off some autostarts I use and claimed to install a firewall. Nothing was installed, I was charged $350 for “3 years”. NEVER deal with these guys. Netgear needs to fire out how their chat got hijacked. Yes, I should have known better - I’ve worked in network support and development for 50 years. I must be getting old :)207Views0likes2CommentsOrbi RBE871 with RBS50
I recently bought an Orbi 870 series router RBE871 with one RBE870 satellite. I'm finding that my WiFi coverage does not seem as good as with my old Orbi RBR50 router and RBS50 satellite. If I try to use the RBS50 satellite as a range extender, or even as a second satellite, with the RBE871 router, will that work?507Views0likes18Commentstrying to use Matter/Thread devices with a Sonoff Dongle-Max
I am going through the same process (trying to use Matter/Thread devices with a Sonoff Dongle-Max) and connecting to my Orbi 870. I do appear to be able to enable IPv6 (using the 6to4Tunnel option - this is a drop-down on the top right hand side of the Advanced->Advanced Setup->IPv6 page). I am unsure if anything is really working on IPv6, and I am certainly not having much fun trying to get the Sonoff dongle recognised on Home Assistant.144Views0likes2Comments
