I have managed to set up my NAS fine, and it has been working brilliantly. I have set up my admin and primary user password but not added any other people's accounts. I have the ReadyNAS RN104 and running OS 6.6.1. I can map a network drive to folders and it asks for passwords but I have noticed that on other pc's on the same network, there is a Network Location for the ReadyNAS visible (with the Netgear logo) and any PC seems to be able to access this without need for an account, let alone a password. I have gone through the shares and edited the permissions to not be anonymous, and even as far as only admin account has access but the automatic network location can still access the files without any protection. I have already had one person access my files on the network without my permission and want to make sure there is only verified access. I can't find anywhere to turn off this 'device' appearing automatically and only allowing access after maping a drive or web access, or at the very least making sure it is password protected. Just a heads up guys, since I have no real idea where to otherwise let you know... After using these forums for some time with a password-manager password of 40 characters and a wide array of characters, I suddenly found myself prompted with "You must enter a password" when trying to sign into My Netgear. I tried multiple computers, browsers, and even a password reset. But each time I got this completely bizarre message AFTER typing a password. Thinking this may have been something [redacted], I tried ridiculously short passwords and then inched my way back up until I figured out that 20 was now the new (and not advertised) maximum. Too short, frankly. But then I also learned that not all symbols remain supported after supplying a 20-character password and THEN having it respond with: "Password should only contain alphabets, numbers or these symbols !@#$%^&*()" I'm sorry... but who the [redacted] was allowed to make this change without any warning to users? Might be handy to, oh, actually have the password rules DISPLAYED on the PASSWORD CHANGE form as well, rather than play 20 questions with the form until one finds a non-objectionable (and insufficiently complicated) password.mac can't access shares on RN10400 and password lost/forgotten.
Hi, I have four shares on my ReadyNas and I can see them on SMB connection. Worked fine until yesterday. Now, when I click on any one of the shares, I get a message "The operation can’t be completed because the original item for “Videos” can’t be found.". I have also lost/forgotten my username/password combination, so I can not access the device as an administrator. Want to do a reset (I think I have to), but am afraid to lose all data. When I connect with RAIDar, all for disks are showing healthy, but again, username/password is required and I can not do any more than observe. Any suggestions? Thanks, Bulent3.2KViews0likes11Comments
