Hi all, I've searched the forum here for this a few times and come up dry, so I figured I'd just come out and ask: Is there any method to disable automatic firmware updates on the Orbi (RBK50)? Firmware version 1.12.0.18 basically annihilated my previously solid Orbi setup on 1.11.0.20 firmware release, and the usual diagnostic steps (factory reset, rollback and reinstall, etc.) don't solve the problem. As is, every satellite is useless with the 1.12.0.18 firmware preventing them from switching their wireless access points on, and using the WiFi directly from the router is inexplicably slow enough to be mistaken for dialup even though testing on my modem confirmed it's not my internet connection (which is still moving at a decent clip of ~150mbps). Rolling it back to 1.11.0.20 gets me full functionality again, but only until evening when the Orbi automatically updates to 1.12.0.18 again and puts me right back. Is there a way to prevent the Orbi from automatically updating its firmware so I can roll back to a non-broken FW build for a while until Netgear fixes the hot mess that is 1.12.0.18? I work from home a fair bit, and with 1.12.0.18 my home network is crippled to the extent that I can't even get on my company's VPN anymore, and rolling it back every few hours or using a MiFi for everything are not viable long-term solutions. Any advice the community can offer to stop the automatic updater (or get me a beta firmware build that doesn't deactivate my satellites) is greatly appreciated.
Hello all! Our home is fairly large and was built by the Moravians (lots of stone), so we needed to connect the satellites via an ethernet cable. So recently I updated the Orbi RBR50, and RBS50's to firmware Version 2.1.2.18, which I was told makes them possible to connect via the ethernet. Now, one satellite is hooked up via the ethernet, but the other changes between the ethernet and 5G connection and gives significantly slower speeds. I've tried resetting it to factory settings and reinstalling the firmware. Is there still something wrong? Am I doing something wrong? Thanks so much ahead of time for all the help!SolvedMajor Failures After Firmware 2.0.0.74 Upgrade!
ORBI firmware version 2.0.0.74 is failing! I have used the ORBI RBK50 system since Apr 2017. While running the 1.xx.xx firmware, the conection was incredibly reliable & fast. I had max speeds from all my devices: several PCs running Windows 10, & an iMac running Sierra (10.12)[High Sierra (10.13) since Sep 25th]. I had reliably uploaded/downloaded hundreds of GB of data each month. This included successful backups to Crashplan & later IDrive. I was very happy with my ORBI. On Oct 1st, I updated my firmware to version 2.0.0.74. By Oct 2nd, I began having significant connectivity problems. Since then, I have tried several suggestions from another thread but the failures continued. Today, I performed the following steps: Factory reset all devices (router & 2 satellites) Performed initial installation Changed satellite names to Satellite-1 & Satellite-2 Rebooted xfinity router Rebooted ORBI router Restarted IDrive backup The connection is still failing! I am lucky to backup a handful of files before IDrive reports a dropped connection! I am not happy. I feel NETGEAR caused this problem with the 2.0.0.74 update. I will be very pissed if I have to pay for premium support to solve this problem!SolvedWireless Performance Mixing AC3000 / AC2200
Current system: RBK50 (claims up to 5,000sq ft) coverage. FW v1.12.0.18 Home: 2 story 2,600sq ft, nothing significant from a construction or interference stand point. RBR50 on first floor left side of house. RBS50 on second floor middle of structure. While the orbi has improved sustained throughput to most wireless devices, its signal does not deliver (not even close) to the theoretical sq footage estimate. This was the primary reason for the purchase and is for the most part largely disappointing. I'd rate it at 2,500sq ft maximum. I'm not going through bricks, metal or glass (nothing crazy). Have messed withthe MIMO and beamforming settings as well. Sorry netgear, fail thus far. I'm really not interested in purchasing another RBS50 for $250 when the current broadcast performace is only marginally better in comparison to a WNDR4500 or R6400 that served the house previously. I expected a little bit more from a signal (broadcast) perspective. Comparitively, the R7000 at my other house does better broadcast (signal) wise. New FW: So I see Netgear has v2.x FW available which I am going to try later today. I'll try turning the broadcast power to 10 and see if things improve. We have no neighbors so I won't be "unfriedly" from that perspective. Now my question. If I put a RBW30 (AC2200) in the "mostly dead" room - which happens to be the room directly above where the RBR50 is now... what will this do to the systems throughput? Please, before everyone replies with their speculation (or what they think) please be certain or have something concrete to backup your answer. Network bandwidth whether maximum or theoretical (in a wireless specific situation) can be affected by a device with slower front/backhaul. In this case a AC2200 sattelite on the AC3000 network. Thus far, I haven't found any documention that answers this question. Great if the AC2200 opearates "isolated" without affecting the entire networks bandwidth, but I'd like to get confirmation on this before investing further in this solution. I hope the v2 FW will improve the broadcast signal strength, as this is my only real complain with the orbi. Throughput is there, I just don't want to shoot myself in the foot and cripple what I have. Wish the SRK60 was available when I purchased the RBK50. I would have gladly spent the additional money.
DankeSolved6.2KViews0likes3CommentsAdvantages/Disadvantages to using Orbi RBK50 pair as Wireless Access Points
I use an xFinity wireless router/modem for internet, wireless and VOIP. I understand that I could use the Orbi RBK50 units as access two wireless access points for this router, but am wanting to know what the advantages and disadvantages are of this and whether I would possibly be better off disabling the xFinity wifi and just going with the 2 Orbi's. I realize that going the access point route would potentially give me more coverage (3 wireless signal senders instead of 2) but wonder if I would be losing out on some functions or features by doing this. Thanks in advance.RBK50 is a downgrade from my Nighthawk R7000 for me
Firstly, I've glanced through some of the threads here and didn't find an exact match for my issue. I am replacing my Nighthawk R7000 due to some deadspots around the 2-level house. My wifi doorbell has a weak signal, and so do the devices in my family room (Xbox, Shield TV, etc) I also have various Amazon Echos, wifi thermostats, wifi cameras, and a Google Home. I followed the simple instructions to setup the new RBK50, and everything went well. It found a new firmware and installed it. But my signal to most of these devices is poor. The hard-wired connection is normal, but wifi signal is poor overall compared to my R7000. My Google Home takes 30 seconds to respond compared to when it was connected to my old router's wifi. My Androud TV is buffering, and my Echo dots all say they either can't connect or very slow to respond (usually caused by a poor signal). WIll I be spending hours or days troubleshooting this or should NEW users be doing somehting like a factory reset? This can't be normal, for such an expensive system. Any suggestions for a new user BEFORE I start digging in to the forums and pulling my hair out?SolvedOrbi RBK50 : Wlan deaktiviert
Danke.
