Hi, I’ve noticed what appears to be DNS leakage in the latest two versions (1.0.11.8 & 1.0.11.6) I use custom DNS for adblocking and with both versions I’ve seen what would normally be blocked being unblocked. Suspect that after a while the RS700 is using the ISP WAN supplied DNS as well as the custom DNS as the blocking / unblock is random. When I first noticed it a few weeks back I downgraded back to 1.0.10.8 and had zero issues, everything that would normally be blocked stayed blocked. Upgraded to 1.0.11.8 when it was released and once again started seeing the issues. Happens on IPv4 & IPv6 - have tried with IPv6 disabled, same results. Have today downgraded back to 1.0.10.8. Thanks, Tim191Views0likes13CommentsHave you seen this about Netgear RS Routers? Pretty interesting and maybe scary or even dangerous!
Supposedly there is a Backdoor to our Rs Series routers by sending magic packets? This makes me nervous as I work and live behind a RS700 in my house. It sounds pretty serious? Here's the summary for the online support form in English, with the current ~400 Mbps figure: Subject: RS700S — Wi-Fi upload capped at ~400 Mbps in router mode only (hardware acceleration / ONT issue) I'm running an RS700S on a symmetrical 10 Gbps fiber line (Swisscom, Switzerland) with a Zyxel PM7300-T0 ONT in bridge mode, connected to the router's 10G WAN port. WAN config: DHCP, VLAN 10, DHCP Option 60 = 100008,0001. Latest firmware installed. Problem: Download is fine (~1500 Mbps), but Wi-Fi upload is hard-capped at ~400 Mbps, reproducible from multiple clients (iPhone and MacBook), measured with a speedtest app. Isolation testing — the key evidence: RS700S as router, wired (LAN): full upload ✓ RS700S as router, Wi-Fi: ~400 Mbps ✗ RS700S in AP mode (behind another router), Wi-Fi: full upload ✓ Different router (Asus), same line/ONT, Wi-Fi: full ~1000/1000 ✓ This shows the Wi-Fi radio is fine (full speed in AP mode) and the WAN/routing path is fine (full speed wired). The cap appears only when Wi-Fi upload AND the router's own NAT/routing run together. Likely root cause: Per Netgear's documentation, AP mode disables hardware acceleration between WAN and LAN. This maps exactly onto the symptom — acceleration OFF (AP mode) = full upload; acceleration ON (router mode) = throttled. The active hardware acceleration in router mode appears to mishandle the wireless upstream toward the ONT. There's no user-facing toggle to disable hardware acceleration / NAT offload in router mode. Additional symptom: The router's built-in speedtest never works in router mode either, pointing to a router-stack issue. Already tried, no change: QoS disabled; latest firmware; WAN Preference = Internet Port (10 Gbps); flow control toggled on both RS700S and ONT; MTU matched on both sides (RS700S maxes at 1500); VLAN tagging tested on the ONT instead of the router (broke the connection — on Swisscom the VLAN must stay on the router); multiple speed-test servers and clients. My questions: Is this a known issue with the wireless-upstream path when hardware acceleration is active in router mode? Is there any way to disable hardware acceleration / NAT offload while staying in router mode? I've read about a trial/beta firmware that addresses slow upload with ONTs — can this be provided for the RS700S, and does it fix this wireless-upstream case? If no fix is available, please advise on RMA/return options under warranty.147Views0likes13CommentsRS700 - HTTP/HTTPS 503 error
Occasionally when I attempt to access my RS700 via web UI for administrative purposes, I receive a 503 error. When this situation occurs, a reboot of the router is required to restore access. Are any others in the community experiencing this problem? I already have a case open with support.Solved98Views0likes3CommentsRS700 DHCP Issues with newest firmware
I purchased an RS700 back in February and on the previous firmware I had the slow Wi-Fi issue and once I would login to the web UI and re-apply the Wi-Fi settings it fixed everything and seemed to be pretty solid. I upgraded a few weeks back to the newest 1.0.11.6 firmware and I have had issues with DHCP and devices showing no internet/IP configuration failure after a reboot. I reloaded the newest firmware from the web UI in Edge and completely factory reset the router and set it up from scratch and the issue remains. Anytime I reboot the router it takes me at least an hour to get it stabilized. When the router reboots I get an IP configuration failure on my Google Pixel when trying to connect and my desktop PC connects, but shows no internet. After waiting around 30 minutes I am able to get my desktop PC connected and when I log into the Web UI and go to attached devices I see many with either 169.x.x.x invalid IPs or else just 0.0.0.0 as the IP address. The fix I have found so far is to go into setup/wireless setup and re-apply the wireless settings and once I do that everything stabilizes usually within 15 minutes and all of my devices connect. I don't use the default DHCP pool so I define my own, but I did try using the default pool after the factory reset and saw the same issue. Is this the DHCP issue I saw in another thread or has that issue been fixed? Any help anyone could provide would be appreciated. Thanks!519Views0likes32CommentsRS700S new v1.0.11.6 DNS issue
After upgrading to version 1.0.11.6, my RS700S ignore my local AdGuard Home DNS response for blocking Ads. However, reverting to version 1.0.10.8 restored the functionality of my local AdGuard Home DNS blocking ads. How can I resolve the issue I encountered? Thank you.720Views0likes29Comments
