RS700 DHCP Issues with newest firmware

I purchased an RS700 back in February and on the previous firmware I had the slow Wi-Fi issue and once I would login to the web UI and re-apply the Wi-Fi settings it fixed everything and seemed to be pretty solid.

I upgraded a few weeks back to the newest 1.0.11.6 firmware and I have had issues with DHCP and devices showing no internet/IP configuration failure after a reboot.  I reloaded the newest firmware from the web UI in Edge and completely factory reset the router and set it up from scratch and the issue remains.  Anytime I reboot the router it takes me at least an hour to get it stabilized.  When the router reboots I get an IP configuration failure on my Google Pixel when trying to connect and my desktop PC connects, but shows no internet.  After waiting around 30 minutes I am able to get my desktop PC connected and when I log into the Web UI and go to attached devices I see many with either 169.x.x.x invalid IPs or else just 0.0.0.0 as the IP address.   The fix I have found so far is to go into setup/wireless setup and re-apply the wireless settings and once I do that everything stabilizes usually within 15 minutes and all of my devices connect.  I don't use the default DHCP pool so I define my own, but I did try using the default pool after the factory reset and saw the same issue.  Is this the DHCP issue I saw in another thread or has that issue been fixed?  Any help anyone could provide would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Is that a reboot of individual devices or a reboot of the RS700 router?

That's a reboot of the RS700 router.  I have around ~60 devices on my Wi-Fi network at any given time.

Do any of the 60-odd devices have reserved IP addresses in the LAN Setup table?

Just to be sure we're on the same page, can you describe how the LAN is configured.  i.e.

        • IP Address
        • IP Subnet Mask
        • DHCP Starting Address
        • DHCP Ending Address

What brand and model# ethernet adapter are you using in your Ethernet PCs?

Issue still happen with protection engine and IPv6 disabled?

Been using newest FW version since day one. No issues seen currently.

DHCP is working for me. Using default 192.168.1.1 however IP address pool range is set to .100 thru .150 for my needs here.

Connected to a CM3000 series cable modem.

Might contact NG support and ask about this. If you have done resets and setup from scratch along with power cycling the ISP modem, possible something with the RS maybe doing bad things.

I don't have any PCs connected via ethernet.  All of them are Wi-Fi using intel wireless adapters.  The only thing I have plugged in via ethernet is my Reolink hub for my cameras.   I have protection engine disabled, IPv6 disabled, and Netgear Armor disabled as well.  Anything that could cause issues I disabled to make sure it was a clean slate.

The Reddit thread you linked is me replying there as well.  I am using an Arris S33 cable modem.  I would contact support, but I am past the 90 days free support so I would need to pay at this point.

  • So after work today I did a bit more troubleshooting.  The first thing I tried that I didn't do before was disable dynamic DNS.  Rebooted router.  Same issue.  My phone showed IP Configuration failed after trying to connect to Wi-Fi multiple times.  After about 20 minutes my desktop computer finally connected so I logged in to the web UI and looked at attached devices.  Many of them had 169.x.x.x IPs or 0.0.0.0 like before.  Then I went to Wi-Fi setup and didn't make any changes, but just clicked apply to re-apply my Wi-Fi settings.  Then after about 2 minutes all of my devices connected again.

Next step was to set the DHCP pool back to 192.168.1.1 and removed all IP reservations.  Rebooted router.  Same as above after the reboot.

Third step was to load the prior firmware again.  I tried this before as stated above, but figured I would try it again.  Loaded the firmware manually from Edge browser.  After a reboot same issue.  So I reloaded the newest firmware again and rebooted.

So 4 times I had to go through the steps listed in my first paragraph to get things stable again.

I use smart connect in my Wi-Fi settings.  I am wondering if maybe this could be related?  If it's a feature it shouldn't cause any issue I would think, but with 60ish devices maybe something is causing it to hang up on router bootup?  I also have a 2.4Ghz IoT network setup as well.

OK, I applied your subnet configuration to my RS700.

Thought default DHCP IP address pool range is set for .100 to .150 for my needs here.

Smart Connect enabled on my router.

Got a few devices connected and there not exhibiting any issues:

Just FYI, since I got the home to my self this weekend, got some time to put my RS700 online as main home network router yesterday. FW v.6. 40 devices online currently.

Smart Connect enabled using manual channels 1, 40 and 37.

    PE enabled.

    CM3000 cable modem.

Not seeing any DHCP issues at present time. Using 192.168.0.1 and IP pool range of .100 to .200. Just did a reboot of the router from the NH app. No issues seen in IP addressing after system was back online.

Will monitor over the weekend for any issues.

Do you have an IoT network configured and setup too?  I have a lot of devices on that network.  The logs seem to indicate a cross-talk issue between the IoT SSID and the main SSID.  I am going to try disabling the IoT network at some point this weekend and do a reboot and see if I still hit the issue.

No, just main WLAN. Several IoT devices online currently.
