Not sure model is correct. My login says RBR50, but it is both router and satelilte... Anyway, I am trying to create a server for my ALL Mac home so that I can have one location for all my music on laptop/ipad/desktop. Is it possible to connect one to the Orbi router, and if so, does it need to be another Mac or computer or can it just be a harddrive? I have a 10 year old Mac Mini with 10.6 software and all my current ones are 10.13.x TIA, JeffConnecting router to external USB drive
I'm trying to add my external USB HD to the router and am running into a few problems: 1) I don't know if I can use it to backup via Time Machine or only for additional storage? I followed the Time Machine guide to partition the USB drive. I'd like to be able to store backups on it. Is this possible? 2) I attached the USB drive to my router and reach the point to connect to server and keep getting an error that my MacBook cannot connect. I opened Genie and everything is good, so I'm unsure as to what the problem is. MacBook Pro Late 2011 macOS High Sierra 10.13 Just updated Genie to 2.4.26 Any help appreciated. Hello, For some time I try to run a server on my network in order to reach for example my NAS or my security camera's from another location (so outside my own network). To my opinion I tried everything possible: - I have a DDNS address (No-IP and also Netgear) and entered it in the router - I tried to put the server in the DMZ - I forwarded the port for the server I use this modem/router with a SIM card only (4G network) I do not come any further. I suspect that my provider (T-Mobile 4G network) is blocking this, but before I start to make a lot of noise there, is there somebody having an idea what I have missed or did not do? Grazie AlessandroSolved2.9KViews1like2CommentsAdding a server to home-based business network using GS608 and N600
I will start by admitting that networking is not my strong point and need help/advice. I am adding a local server to my existing network comprised of an N600 router and a GS608 switch. The router (4 ports) powers a laptop, the switch, and a wired security camera system. The switch itself connects a PC and three printers leaving three ports open. The camera system has a DVR controlled by the PC. Should I be connecting the server to the router (one open port) or to the existing switch (3 open ports)? Or is adding another switch dedicated to the server recommended and if so, would it go between the router and the server? My ultimate goal by installing the server is to allow assistants to remotely access a database concurrently so we can all work together to meet deadlines. They never work in the same location, so remote access to the server/DB is the only way it will work. There will probably not be more than 10 remote users, either. Should I move the Cat5e cable connecting the security camera system from the router to the switch? I think the only reason it is attached to the router is I added the switch after I installed the security cameras... Thanks for your time!2.4KViews0likes1Comment
