Netgear Orbi Voice RBS40V I can't Set up with a router that is not an Orbi
My Netgear Orbi Voice RBS40V cannot be configured as an Extender
following the guide to configure my Orbi voice as an extender when I don't have an Orbi router:
I have downloaded the app, I have reset the device in factory mode (also has the latest Firmware) and in the part where it says:
"Locate and connect to the Orbi Voice WiFi network called NETGEAR_EXT"
well it does not show, instead I see the the SSID ORBI44 configuration itself is called ORBI4 which obviously matches with the factory default SSID sticker that I can see below my OrbiVoice but even though I connect to that SSID, the app by default only searches for network NETGEAR_EXT, which is why it doesn't let me configure it at all.
Has anyone had the same case and been able to solve it? or Does anyone know how to configure it with a non-Netgear router?
Thanks in advance
First many thanks for your assistance and good news! I found the solution of how you set up in extender mode the RBS40V (without -200 model or Ver. 1), the solution is in this link:
"How do I setup my Orbi Voice RBS40V in Extender Mode?"
https://kb.netgear.com/000061427/How-do-I-setup-my-Orbi-Voice-RBS40V-in-Extender-Mode
the trick is the Sync button and the SSID show the EXTENDER_EXT, so now my RBS40V is working with another router.
Thanks

Seems like you need to get extender mode FW loaded on the RBS40v to get into extender mode. Seems like it's in Orbi mode:
Might help to check the specific model number on the product label (bottom of the case).
Version 1 is compatible only with Orbi routers:

Version 2 has two separate 'modes', Orbi satellite and WiFi Extender:

Hi, First thanks for your answer, well I follow your link and I have tried to manually load the firmware ext mode but it fails, it does not allow it to be loaded, could it be because my model is not RBS40V-200 is only RBS40V ?
Is there a way to force it to be in Ext mode?
Thanks

Hello,
I have a RBS40V (not RBS40V-200) but reading your thread looks like you have the same model like me (RBS40V) and you talk about that your device was in extender mode, How were you able to make it in extender mode? because I understand that only the model RBS40V-200 allows it to be both, extender and orbi mode.
Thanks
Glad you got it working. Please mark your thread as solved so others will know. Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.

You did this, and it worked?
Would have been a lot easier if this had been mentioned in the Product Data Sheet, Installation Guide, or the User Manual.

hi,
If it works wonderfully, I was already disappointed by the simple fact of wasting a great product, but when I did one last search on Google, voilĂ ! the answer!!, and exactly what you say, why the userÂŽs manual does not contemplate that and you end up finding it in a KB, well today something new to learn, let's share wisdom đ
