Orbi MR 2.1 Update 3/23/18
Our teams are still working through the issues, but I wanted to provide a quick update on OrbiOS 2.1. We usually wait to release our software until it's available across all Orbi product lines, but in a departure from our normal processes, we’re going to the release BETA software for our products in a staggered manner. The first wave to be released are only for the RBR50 and RBS50, which is used in the RBK50 and RBK53 (Costco) kits. If you have a kit that includes a different hardware product (including RBK52W, RBK40 series or RBK30 series) or a RBK50 or RBK53 with an add-on satellite (RBS40, RBW30), please hang tight. We’re not quite done with it yet, but will update this thread when it’s ready.
Edit for clarity: This release supports both Circle & Ethernet backhaul
Edit2: Updated with the 2nd wave of firmware for RBR40, RBS40, RBR20 and RBS20. This supports the following SKUs: RBK40, RBK43, RBK44, RBK20, RBK22, RBK23.
Edit3: Updated for RBW30, to support RBK30, RBK33, RBK52W, and others
We’re not yet going to push this release this for auto-firmware upgrade, and will let you know before we do. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Support.
Rel Notes:
- Fixes issues where Internet access is not available on some devices, but available on others.
- Fixes an issue where Satellites get disconnected from Router
- Provides protection for the MDNS packet flood issue
- Addresses an issue where websites set to unmanaged are unreachable
- Multiple other connectivity & RF improvements

- L0n3lyInitiateI have a problem in RBS50 about connection when i using this update as beta or stable firmware: 2.1.3.4 or 2.0.1.4
I upgrade and downgrade many time even make factory reset but still have disconnection problem ..
Sometime RBS50 make reconnection with router and Notice that from color being solid blue and sometime there is wifi network but wifi disappear for few second, especially this problem happen to me when i using ps4 or apple product like iphone or ipad ..
Also in windows laptop sometime 5Ghz wifi network lost because i'm using my laptop far away but i do manual setting to connect with network as 2.4Ghz ..
Also, i saw some people talk about 2.1.3.6
Can i know from where they get it ? Because in download link there is 2.1.3.4 only! Can any one upload it for us, may be it will fix my problem !
I have this product from amazon and i wish i can return it because its not stable at all, even sometime using speedtest! I saw the speed is very bad as 10MB or 20MB as download!- FURRYe38Guru - Experienced User
v2.1.3.6 is for a different model than yours.
What is the Mfr and model # of the ISP modem your Orbi is connected too?
What is the ISP speed UP and Down you pay for?
What is the distance between the router and satellite? Ft?
What is the size of your home? SqFt?
What wireless channels are you using? Try manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and any unused channel on 5ghz.
Set 20/40Mhz coexistence to 40Mhz only.
Disable MIMO, BeamForming, Daisy Chain, Fast Roaming and IPv6.

oh i see, i thought its for RBR50
my ISP modem is Huawei HG8245Q and i don't know what do you mean by Mfr ?
i pay for 50Mb package and by the way when i disconnect orbi system and using Huawei HG8245Q as modem and router, speed is so perfect but wifi cannot cover whole house as you know, also when i being near from RBR50 my speed is so perfect i get it full even ping being 5 !
but when i being in another floor to connnect with RBS50 i hate my life :(
i installed RBR50 beside modem and connected with it by LAN as AP mode in 2nd floor and RBS50 installed in 3rd floor, there is no horizintal distance but i installed like vertically beside stairs and height is not that much may be 4 meters or 5 also there is 2 doors made it by wood and always keep it open, sometime i move RBS50 more closely but vertically not horizntally and check blackhoule status in attached device as Good !
i don't know how much size of my house and i'm not expert about measruing but try my best when i comment about distance between RBR50 and RBS50
i live in neighbrhood have alot of wifi network, so its impossible everyday check what best channel number because they restart their routers and see everytime they change wifi channel and i know not them but router change it when they put it as Auto mode and restart it from time to time ..
so my wifi channel put as Auto but sometime i check wifi channel scan and see no problem with that !
About 20/40Mhz coexistence : when i enable it, i notice there is more disconnect but when i disable it wifi improving but the problem didn't solved !
About Disable MIMO, BeamForming, Daisy Chain, Fast Roaming and IPv6 , i disable everything and i didn't use them at all except Daisy Chain ! i thought its better to keep enable it !
i don't know, you are the expert whats your suggestion ?

I have found this beta to be just horrible. Wireless clients disappearing, and not seeing other devices on the LAN/WLAN, etc. Please, someody tell me what I can replace this P.O.S. with.

I was running 2.1.2.18 (after several fw updates) on my Orbi system purchased on 18/Nov/2016.
After trying 2.1.3.4, my Samsung Galaxy S6 would connect for a while then disconnect without notice. Attempts to reconnect failed with Authentication errors
I could turn off WiFi on the phone and it would reconnect for a while, till something would cause it to disconnect again.
The phone is running Android 7.0.
I also have a tablet running Win10 that seemed to connect fine. There wasn't any problem after a sleep and wakeup cycle.

Has a factory reset been performed then set up from scratch?
Try using manual channel 1, 6 or 11 and any used channel on 5ghz.
Disable beamforming, mimo, daisy chain and fast roaming.
Try setting 40Mhz coexistence only...

- --ChuckGuideThanks for the reply. Since it was only my smart phones that had a problem, I didn't think it was necessary to reset.
In addition, I did not disable beamforming, mimo, daisy chain or fast roaming.
I'll try your suggestions later this week.

Let us know if power cycling the switch does anything. Odd that the satellite works drirectly connected and doesnt with this switch and LAN cabling in the mix...

Didn't help, or change the behavior :( There must be some odd combination of resets/power-cycles that I'm not doing correctly. System seems more stable now on 2.1.3.4, and I don't think my iPad Pro 9.7 has been kicked off with this firmware, whereas it was a daily occurance before I upgraded.
- steve8411Apprentice
My iPad 9.7 was the main culprit having the same issue...
This firmware makes it better, but it still happens (requiring a cycling of wifi on the iPad). Just happens less frequently.
I also noticed with this beta, the battery on the iPad lasts much longer on Wifi ... have you noticed this yet turns2stone ???
Is it safe to upgrade 2.1.3?

The links for the RBR40 and RBS40 do not work for me. Are those 2.1.3 firmware files active?
When will there be a new firmware?
This piece of **bleep** just isn't working
(yes I treid it all several times all configs multiple resets)
FURRYe38 wrote:You might contact NG support and ask for an RMA, you may have bad HW that FW can't fix.

I will echo what FURRYe38 is stating. I had a lot of problems and just received a new satellite from Netgear, via RMA. I'm hoping it was a hardware issue. All of my issues seemed to stem from the satellite itself and not the router (ie. I could unplug the satellite and not have any issues). The next week or two will be the deciding factor.

Working really well again here in AP mode, stable on v2.1.3.4. Have various clients, iPads, iPhones, Android phone and tablet, TV's, laptop, desktops, T-Mobile CellSpot extender, and so on, and have had no problems with clients. Had a few problems with 2.1.2.18, but none with 2.1.3.4.
I just hope that Netgear can keep putting out stable firmware, since auto-update to the latest version pretty much ties my hands when it comes to staying on the latest version that worked for me. I really wish that wasn't the case, but I feel like I need a backup for the Orbi, since I never know when Netgear's going to screw up, and I have no defense for that unless I have a backup. It would be really helpful if one could temporarily disable auto-update in case of incompatible clients and/or firmware problems.
- I definitely think this version is less stable on older orbis.
I managed to capture a Oops kernel crash shame netgear dont have support that wants feedback or pre beta community testers so we could help fix issues. I'm sticking with old much more stable firmware.- FURRYe38Guru - Experienced User

Hi,
The links are dead :(
Can you please fix them.

It would be nice to test the new firmware because the wifi drops with my ios devices are annoying ;)
Thank you

I've now had one week on the new firmware and my RBK50 has been rock solid. I did a factory reset (which also fixed a speed bottleneck problem in the RBR50) after the upgrade to V2.1.3.4.
I can't say the same about the RBW30, however. That continues to cause disconnects (see this thread) and I've had to turn it off. (of course, it could be the hardware....)
So '10 out of 10' for V.2.1.3.4. (RBR50 and RBS50)
And '0 out of 10' for V2.1.3.6 (RBW30)
