How to get the unlock code prompt on AT&T Nighthawk MR1100

I have a AT&T Nighthawk MR1100 through OTR Mobile. They are switching to T-Mobile based service so I had to get the unlock code and a T-Mobile post paid SIM. When I put the T-Mobile SIM in and power it on I am not getting a prompt to enter the unlock code nor can I find it anywhere through the device manager. Does anyone know how I can get to where I enter the unlock code?
  • If you can connect to T-Mobile network without entering the code, your device was unlocked.

    Thanks

You need to contact AT&T or OTR Mobile to get the unlock code.

You can enter the code by visiting 192.168.1.1 and log in as admin.

    Thanks

I already have the unlock code. My issue is I don’t get a prompt to enter it nor is their any place that is listed to enter it when I log on to the device management page.

You need to power on the device with T-Mobile SIM in order for you to enter the unlcok code.

        Thanks

I went to 192.168.1.1 and it asked for username and password. Admin login didn't work.  Any advice?

  • Can you tell me how you got your hands on an unlock code? We've been waiting over a week for the unlock. WE've got the T-Mobile Sim, but can't use OTR's sefvice, which of course we have already paid for.

I too am an OTR customer and the answer to your question is actually on their web site buried and I just happened to stumble across it.

My question for you though, how do get an unlock code to put in there.  Do I just need to buy this device unlock?

I haven't been all that happy with their lack of customer service.  When they are there, they are great.  Right now with COVID-19, the timing is less than ideal for all of us trying to switch from AT&T Legacy Plan over to the T-Mobile BLAST plan.  I got the SIM card today but I have no idea how to get it activated in the Nighthawk.

I actually followed those exact instructions and still never got a prompt to enter unlock code. The only answer I’ve seen or got that made any sense then was my device came from them unlocked.

As for how I got an unlock code, I clicked a link that took me to the AT&T website and the section to request the unlock code. The post I found it on is no longer up but I believe it can probably be found with a Google search. If you do find it be sure to watch your inbox and junk folder for emails. I had one go to each.

Thank you very much for your quick response.  I went ahead and used that link to have OTR send me an unlock code.  The way you describe what happened when you tried the instructions to get the unlock code prompt, I am wondering about something, and it has to do with which SIM card you had in your Nighthawk when you tried it.  See, I had gotten the new SIM card and was going to try and get it activated, and that's when I got the prompt for the unlock code.  You have to keep in mind that the old SIM card is meant to work on the AT&T network and with an AT&T device.  The new SIM card switches you over to the T-Mobile network (much better anyway in my opinion) and so the device is saying "hey that ain't right" and proceeds to want to unlock the device in order for a foreign SIM to work.  That's the only thing I can think of that could be causing you the headache.

  • Thank you to everyone on this feed. We have not succeeded yet in setting up our new device but we alot further along. Thank you!! I found this helpful guide on AT&T's website while I was doing my own research and thought I would share since it is MUCH better than OTR Mobile's guide to Unlocking your device.

    Thanks Again!

Not sure what everyone else is finding now, but it's 4/9 and I FINALLY got through to OTR Mobile end of last week.  Talked to "Jake".  He assured me they would send me a TM Sim, and whatever is necessary for the static IP.  BUT, he stated, "the company we're working with to unlock the Nighthawk is 3500 devices behind."  "It may be QUITE A WHILE before you get an unlock code from them."  I suspect "quite a while" will NOT be measured in hours or days...

He THEN referred me to DC-Unlocker, saying "You SHOULD be able to unlock the device there."

First, their whole site looks more than a little sketchy, and second they charge and want BITCOIN or some such...  This doesn't pass the smell test.  I rummaged around and found a lot of complaints about them being a scam, and since this is OTRs fault, I'm not paying some bunch of scammers and hope I actually get this thing unlocked.

I got the email yesterday that OTR Mobile is shipping the new Sim card, but if they can't unlock the Nighthawk I'll have a Sim, and a ridiculously expensive hockey puck.

How are other people getting the device unlock code promised by OTR Mobile?

I upgraded as a legacy customer to the new blast package in early April and received my SIM card last week.  The card arrived in an empty envelope; no order sheet, no instructions, nothing.  I finally got around to swapping the SIM cards out only to discover that it wasn't working.  After LONG hours of researching on the internet, but the OTR Moible webpage has NO information; I discovered through chat spots like this that I needed a unlock code, which they were supposed to send me through email.  No email had arrived.

So I spent a long 2 hours waiting online for the "live chat" option.  The representative told me that the company they hired to unlock the Nighthawk devices (which I purchased from OTR) was on lockdown in NYC and was thousands of units behind; therefore they had no way of knowing how long it would be before they received my unlock code.  They also had no way of knowing how long my ATT Sim card would continue to function (How do they not know this??)  They referred me to DC Unlocker or CellCorner; they would not reimburse the cost of the unlocking.

I went with their company because I had heard their CS was great; not so much.  All of this information could easily be sent to customer that have received SIM Card but not Unlock code.  All could be published on their website.  They do not want to do this because they would not be able to charge you the auto monthly fee; thus they do not publish.

So there it is - unlock it yourself or pay and wait.

  • Ha. As an update, OTR has charged my card for auto renewal while freely admitting they can't provide service as promised. They can offer a "credit" to my account but will only offer a 60 dollar refund if I cancel, not the full 120 they have charged. The customer service persons response was "our terms and conditions state that service may not work we would only offer the 60 dollars because of the situation. Unreal......

In other news, has anyone heard of this company https://neverthrottled.com/ ? Seems like they use ATT towers, devices and SIM cards.

    • I may be a little jaded and cynical after the experience with OTR Mobile, but...

I never heard of them 'til your post.  Took a look.  Their equipment prices are WAY high.  And their monthly is 40% higher than OTR Mobile.  But at least they're on AT&T, not T-Mobile.  'Course depending on whether they're legit or doing whatever OTR Mobile was doing that got them expelled from AT&T, they could go boots up any minute.

If you've got your own equipment so they can only nail you for $30 to activate on top of the $85/mo, it may be worth a try, but I wouldn't dump hundreds on equipment from another one of these places.

Understand being jaded. For sure, I am too. But I don't have any real options at this point. And they're only 40% higher than OTR until May, at which point even legacy plans are increasing. At this point OTR has stolen $120 from me so the reality is, OTR'S price doesn't really matter since they can't deliver on a product. FYI, there is now an entire facebook page dedicated to people that OTR screwed over and it doesn't look pretty.

I looked at mobilemusthave.com and their plan for att devices (since I can't get mine unlocked) is $99 for the first month and $120 for each month after.

I also went to cellcorner.com., it seemed a little better than DCunlocker (which is based in Lithuania btw). Cellcorner.com was based in Florida and said they could get an unlock code for $32. If you believe their sales pitch it takes anywhere from 2 to 12 business days.
  • Who gave you the unlock code?  We tried AT&T and they are clueless.  Did you get it from T-Mobile?

Go to ATT.com/unlock I personally called ATT CS said i need to get my ATT branded netgear night hawk unlocked, gave my email address and a day or 2 later got a unlock code. BE WARNED with Covid-19 still going on ATT has reduced staff and pretty seems as tho they don't answer calls right now. Best if you can to use the automated route.

That is sometimes a workable option IF you have an "ATT Branded" unit.  As far as I know, for anything else, say a Nighthawk that's locked to AT&T but purchased from OTR Mobile, you're screwed.  AT&T won't help.

  • Rebooting MR1100 mobile router device via press and hold button does not work.
    Instead do the following:

Reboot MR1100 mobile router device via router's settings.

    - Go to Netgear's mobile router admin login page at 192.168.1.1 and login.
    - Then go to the three dots at upper right corner of dashboard page. Click on it.
    - A drop down menu will appear, click on 'Reboot', mobile router device will reboot successfully.
It will detect the change of a SIM card.
    • Perhaps you should have read the discussion about the modem being locked!  A hard reset does not have any affect on a locked modem recognizing another carriers SIM card.

    • Alread tired this, it will not work when the IMEI is associated with a telephone number that I am not associated with, the telephone number is with OTR using AT&T network.   I also talked direct with AT&T support, OTR needs to release the number first, then maybe the AT&T website will work.  I cannot do that now, this is our only source of internet, I cannot afford to be disconnected and then find out I am still unable to unlock the MR1100.  I am going to purchase another LTE modem as the backup plan, wether i stay with OTR in the long run i do not know, AT&T network is reliable and have had no issue with it.  I have no experiance with T-Mobile

Guys, you can keep posting that link to AT&T ad nauseum.  IT'S NEVER GOING TO WORK FOR NIGHTHAWKS PURCHASED FROM OTR MOBILE.

According to AT&T, the numbers associated with those devices belonged to TELEPHONES and should never have been associated with hotspots.  AT&T WILL NOT UNLOCK THEM.

OTR Mobile WILL NOT UNLOCK THEM.

        Netgear WILL NOT UNLOCK THEM.

As far as I know, your choices are limited to dc-unlocker and some other company that purports to provide unlock codes for these devices.

I'm not sure what dc-unlocker is, but I found posts elsewhere that it's a group in Lithuania.  To use them you have to go through some process of getting "credits", possibly some cyber currency, and whatever you give them is GONE whether they provide you with a successful unlock or not.  There are LOTS of posts in various places from angry, frustrated people that WEREN'T successful getting unlocked by dc-unlocker.  Others HAVE been successful.  I haven't tried to unlock mine yet so I don't know if dc-unlocker is a total scam, a reliable company, or something in between.

  • If it's an unlocked netgear device then check signal if it's connected, check if Tmobile plan is active, or download Netgear Mobile App and reboot there.

If it's a AT&T locked device then go to the AT&T link below to unlock:
    https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/#/

Use the web browser and go to 192.168.1.1, Or download and use Netgear Mobile app to reboot device. Then enter code.
