GS108Tv2 and SmartControlCenter

If this post belongs elsewhere, kindly advise where. On a system with Windows 10 Pro, I would like to update the GS108Tv2 switch on a home LAN by doing so with the SmartControlCenter Manager, of which I have installed the latest version with "SCC_v1.1.3.2" from Netgear website. When I run the SCC app and click the Adapter tab, it shows three adapters on my laptop: forst, one for Virtualbox NDIS 6.0 Miniport Driver, then one for each of the other two USB ethernet adapters attached to this laptop. It shows a checkmark alongside the VirtualBox adapter as the "current" adapter, which is odd to begin with as it would be used only for VMs. Anyway, when I select one of the other functional adapters and click to apply it, I get a popup saying the program will have to close and restart to take effect. That's fine, and when I click okay, it ends the programs interface but nothing restarts. Then, after I restart it manually, the same condition exists. Nothing was changed for the current adapter. I cannot discover the switch through this adapter, and that prevents me from upgrading its BIOS. Here is the current firmware in it: Model Name Boot Version Software Version GS108Tv2 B5.1.0.2 5.0.5.10 I downloaded what I believe to be the latest firmware for this switch, i.e.., "GS108Tv2_GS110TP_V5.4.2.22", but I cannot make use of it until the SCC program functions correctly. Any informed advice would be welcome. Thanks.

    Hello Oda2,

    Welcome to the community!

Before posting a reply to your inquiry, I did manage to test a windows 10 on our lab. I was not able to replicate the issue you are experiencing, this could be due to the difference on installed programs. Yes, the latest firmware version for this model is 5.4.2.22 (posted on the support website). For the utility it is v1.3.2. What I'll suggest for you to try are the following:

    1. Turn of any firewalls or anti-virus and then reinstall the utility.
    2. Run the utility as an administrator or run it on compatibility mode.

See if this suggestion will help, let us know.

    Thanks,

Which programs would have to get access through the firewall for your program to work? i am not inclined to disable it to make connections with with your switch since firewalls are for security. Is something broken? Also, I am running it as administrator, thank you for asking. If all else fails, is there another way to update the BIOS in order to circumvent his malfunction?

      Johnro,

Apparently, it is now functioning properly because the SCC program can maintain its setting and recognize the device. It was simply necessary to reboot the PC after installing the upgraded version of SCC. Anyway, I used it to upgrade the firmware too, and it worked as expected. Thanks for getting back earlier.
