M4100-26G - VLAN - Isolate a few ports

I am using a M4100-26G for a home lab.  I want to be able to partition off a few ports to act like a separate switch.  I will include the configuration screen shoots below.

What I am running into, I can create the port groups using VLan, however, when I plug in certain cables the network switch stops responding and is hung until I un-plug the network cable.   I can ping the internet from any of the ports including the port group.  I am really looking for complete isolation if possible.  Can anyone see where I am going wrong in the configuration.  I have read the manual, lots of googling and lots of youtube.  Everything I see says that the below should work.

Firmware is: 10.0.2.35

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Chris

A little bit vague. Are you trying to cross-connect different port groups with this cabling? One might guess this is intentional to avoid network loop conditions. The common mechanism in place is STP (Spanning Tree Protocol) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanning_Tree_Protocol

Significantly faster in the loop discovery time is RSTP https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanning_Tree_Protocol. Said that, this is switch-wide.

A more advanced version is MSTP https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiple_Spanning_Tree_Protocol allowing to limit a spanning tree to a VLAN.

A good point to start in case of a problem is always the switch log where you can see the reason why the switch does stop responding.

    Lot of learning ahead 8-)

Thank you for the quick response.  I am actually aiming for the port groups to be completely isolated from each other. Reading some of the material, it sounds like this is probably not doable.  I am reading what you sent, it will be a day or two before I have been able to read and digest what you sent.  Thank you for sending me the info.

I am certain it's the loop back that's causing the issue, I'll review logs as well and get the actual answer.

      Thank You

      Chris
