M4300-52G-PoE+ loop error

Hello,

i have a stack of 2 netgear m4300 switches.

i also have a second stack of 2 m4300 switches. these stack is connected with a lag to the first stack. on the second stack is port 51 of each switch in the lag.

every few seconds we have this error in the log :  LOOP_PROT[dtlTask]: loop_protect_txrx.c(164) 139739 %% Is looped probably, since feature not enabled discarding the packet.

we also have other netgear switches connected with al lag to a stack and on every switch we see this error.

what can be wrong?

kind regards

Frank

    Hi knarfer,

    Welcome to the community!

Could you please provide detailed info as below:

    1. Please check if enable L2 Loop Protection on Switch?

    2. Please check if enable STP on Switch?

    3. Please provide your topology, we want to check if there is loop.

      Hi Eric,

      1. L2 Loop protection is enabled

      2. STP is enabled

      3. we have 4 core switches in stack

on this stack we connect edge switches with lags. some of this switches are standalone other are in stack. the standalone switches are connected with 2 ports in a lag. the switches in stack are connected with 1 port on each switch in a lag configuration.

      regards

      Frank

        Hi knarfer

As all of switches in your network support STP protocol, so we suggest disable L2 Loop Protection function, the STP function will protect no loop in the network topology.

By the way, the L2 Loop Protection function is used for the scenario that access switch not support STP(such as: connect one hub).

If you enable STP and L2 Loop Protection, it maybe cause some unpredictable errors.

        Hope it helps!
