M4300 CPU and memory utilization

Hello,

Few days ago I have installed in my network few M4300 52G PoE+ switches. Everything works fine but
During these day, I monitor switches and I found that all the time CPU utilization is stable 28-32%, but memory utilization is stable ~70%. I would like to know why CPU and memory utilization is on so high level. Especially, that I do not have a tons of traffic, just regular utilisation. Is it normal?

Please find the screenshot: http://i.piccy.info/i9/39e51e5db29de551b7c41eeafbb59b6f/1516802814/85183/1209978/m4300.png

I have few the same M4300 (two of them are the part of stack). Level of CPU and memory on all of them are the same.

And what is the normal operational level of these parameters?

Thanks a lot for your support.

  • Hi 4uba,

I inquired your concern to the higher tier of NETGEAR Support and just got a feedback.  As per the higher tier of NETGEAR Support:  For Memory, after booting, the switch allocates between 70% and 90% of total system memory up front, but this memory is not actually used until it is needed. The amount of memory allocated up front will vary depending on the SDM Template selected in the switch. For CPU, it will depend on the usage of the switch.

You may want to further check.  On the web-GUI of the M4300 52G PoE+ switches you have, go to System > Management > System CPU Status.  Does the CPU Utilization and Memory Utilization matches what you see in the NMS300?

      Hi, DaneA

      Thanks a lot for information.

      Total System Memory1017440 KBytes
      Available Memory309276 KBytes

Mostly, I worry about memory utilization, cause it's more than 50% (at such expensive and performant model), but if this memory just allocates - it's OKAY. CPU - 30-35% (depends) - it's OKAY.

So, I think you has answered my question. Thanks a lot. Have a nice day.
