M7100-24x switch can't link up with Intel 10G board (Intel Broadwell-DE 10G MAC + Inphi CS4227 PHY)
Hello Sir,
I have Netgear M7100-24X and XS 716-T switch, I encountered SFP link not up issue when I connect 10G SFP from Intel board to any SFP port (21~24) to M7100-24X switch. After connected optical cable between Intel 10G SFP board and Netgear M7100-24X, I saw Intel ixgbe driver has alerted 10G link up and down repeatedly and I also saq connected SFP port has errors on Port statistics from Netgear web GUI. I did not know what cause SFP link up and down in short period of time. Please check Host console message below for details.

I have another Netgear XS 716-T which also has link not up problem with Intel 10G SFP board. But unexpected SFP link up/down issue be resolved after I upgraded Firmware Version 6.6.3.3 to XS 716-T switch.
I visited Netgear web, do research on community and update latest Firmware Version 11.0.0.31 to M7100-24X switch, but continues SFP port link up and down still occurs on my environment. I did not know why the SFP link problem cannot be resolve by latest version of M7100 Firmware.
I have further contact Intel and Inphi for unexpected link up/down issue with M7100 switch. I invited Inphi FAE to remote debug this issue from my setup, we check more details by using Inphi utility. I get following feedback from Inphi technical support.
“Form the test we had done, we see that the link can be established and then disconnected. For Inphi’s PHY, it won’t do this. From our experience, there is no issue for Intel + Inphi platform with other Netgear switches before. Do you want to check this with netgear also?”
According to Inphi technical support, the unexpected link down looks triggered by M7100 switch, I would get Netgear’s help to debug and resolve this issue. Please kindly let us know if anything we could check/test or any suggestion to resolve this problem. Thanks.

Hi MiltonWang,
Welcome to the community! :)
As far as I have checked, there is no issue logged for the M7100-24X (XSM7224) switch about not being able to link up with the Intel 10G board (Intel Broadwell-DE 10G MAC + Inphi CS4227 PHY) using the SFP ports as per described in your post. Since you have upgraded the firmware of the M7100-24X (XSM7224) switch to the latest version, I suggest you to perform a factory reset to it then reconfigure the settings from scratch to start clean using the latest firmware version.
If ever still the same problem, then it seems that there is a compatibility issue between the M7100-24X (XSM7224) switch and the Intel 10G board (Intel Broadwell-DE 10G MAC + Inphi CS4227 PHY). I suggest you to open a chat or online case with NETGEAR Support and let them know about your concern as well as the troubleshooting steps you did to isolate the problem. It is possible that the chat/online case you will open will be escalated to the engineering team to address the compatibility concern and a fix (possibly a beta firmware) will be created.

Hi DaneA,
Thanks for your feedback and suggestion for this compatibility issue. I have followed your suggestion to do a factory default on M7100 switch via Netgear web GUI. I also saw SFP port link down on both switch and Netgear GUI after switch process factory default and reboot, and I saw ixgbe driver repeated display 10G link up and down from Host console.
Due to I cannot recover SFP port link issue by upgrade latest Firmware and do factory default in M7100-24x (XSM7224) switch, I will follow your suggestion to open a online case from NETGEAR Support. Thanks.
Best Regards,
Milton Wang
