M7300/M4300, and all netgear managed switches, apparently do not support LACP fallback mode
We have both M4300 and M7300 10GbE switches from Netgear in our environment. It does not appear that any netgear switches support LACP fallback mode. We already checked with support and tried the lat...

Hi ecsrun27
Thanks for your post, your contribution to the Community is instrumental. I've made some research and you are correct, we do not have option to fall back and disable LACP automatically when LAG is down due to the absence of LACP. I agree that it would help in cases like this. We need to prioritize such equivalent command to lacp-suspend in our Fully Managed Switch software roadmap. Let us work on this. We can't deliver any ETA at this point, but your voice was heard. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me,

Laurent,
It is great to hear that the Netgear team is listening to the customer base! Thanks for your response. We understand that this won't happen overnight, but definetly looking forward to when this feature makes it into the product.
Cheers,

Hi: we made progress on this and we'll have testing image with proposed enhancement for M4300 soon. If this works well, our plan will be to roll this out across all NETGEAR managed switches, for sure...
Could you send me your contact details using private message? This way, our Technical Support and Engineering teams could work with you and provide the patch for test, when time comes. We would love to get your feedback based on your requirements.

Hi ecsrun27: I know our Tech Support and Engineering teams have provided you with the M4300 patch, bringing automatic "lacp suspend" behavior in case the host isn't LACP anymore. The switch automatically reverts to static LAG, there is no need to issue any command for it. The switch can detect when LACP is back and revert to LACP.
The Community is looking forward to your feedback, I'm sure. Our goal is to roll this enhancement, after due QA testing, into new firmware releases across all our Fully Managed switches.

I've been testing the new LACP automatic fallback feature for a few days now and it works great. My only feedback would be to allow customers to override LACP fallback and to be able to control the timeout.
There are scenarios in which you wouldn't want traffic going out the 10Gb interfaces on a server until the LACP negotiation happens, i.e., you don't want a single 10Gb port on the server to go live in a state where the bond is not active.
Also, there are some (admittedly rare) scenarios in which you have multiple 10Gb bonds, and you don't want traffic going out of a degraded bond, i.e., you would want LACP fallback DISABLED.
The default in the new FW is for LACP fallback ON and I believe this is the right choice. I don't believe that either a toggle or a timeout should delay releasing this feature, but something to consider in the future.
Thanks for listening to your customer base! Great to see this out of a vendor.
