Need help creating vlan (802.1Q)
I have a GS724Tv2 switch which currently has all appliances connected on vlan1. The firewall appliance is connected to port1 and I have a wireless access point (AirPort Extreme) on port10. Its my understanding that the AP’s regular traffic is untagged and the guest traffic is tagged 1003. I am attempting to pass regular traffic from the AP on vlan1 untagged and guest traffic on a new vlan (vlan1003). I created the new vlan (vlan1003) and assigned port1 and port10 both tagged. Both these ports are also still assigned to vlan1 untagged. When I do this it appears that all traffic to the firewall is being blocked on vlan1 and vlan1003 is still not connecting.

- VLAN 1 traffic should not have been affected by the changes you did for VLAN 1003. How did you determine that VLAN 1 traffic to the firewall was being blocked? Did you try pinging the firewall from a device wired into your switch?
Is your firewall set up to receive and send traffic tagged with VLAN 1003? Moreover, is there a DHCP server for that VLAN?- wgstarksAspirantThe devices connected to the switch all lose access to the DHCP server running on the firewall. I can’t really say for sure at what point on the network the traffic is being blocked.
The firewall is configured for vlan1003.

If I leave the GS724Tv2 switch with all ports in default configuration (assigned to vlan1 and untagged) will any tagged packets be passed through the switch with their tags unaltered?
I found some posts online that suggest this is true, but no official documentation.
