Stacked gs748ts firmware upgrade
Hi !
I plan to upgrade the firmware of a pair of stacked GS748ts using V5.0.0.23 at this time to V5.2.0.10.
Do I need to unstack them or only to upgrade the master which will upgrade the slave ?
Thx in advance for any help.
Cheers,
Phil.

- fordemMentorhttp://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/24212 Always, ALWAYS, read the firmware release notes before performing an upgrade. The link above is on the page you downloaded the firmware from, and also, most likely in the zip file with the upgrade.
- wludAspirantHi !
In fact I DID read this, but it appears unclear to me as it is embedded in a procedure to upgrade from a V3.x.x.x, which is not my case.. as mentioned in my post, I only intend to upgrade from a V5.0.0.23 to a V5.2.0.10..
I should have been more specific : is this applicable for every upgrade or only when you upgrade from a V3.x.x.x to a V5.x.x.x ?
I read long ago that if you upgraded the master switch in the stack it would replicate the upgrade on the others via the HDMI link, but I did not manage to find back where I did read this.. And I do not want to mess with those switches which are very important into our Lan..

Phil. - fordemMentorTo be honest, I have a recollection of reading that also, and I can also recall attempting it and having it fail - the master updated and the slaves did not, and I had to update each switch separately - but - that was quite some time back - and it was more of "does this work" type deal - than a need to do it, I had two switches, for two different clients, in the shop at the same time, and was fooling around with the stacking before delivery. If the switches are that critical and you "do not want to mess with" them, then don't - what do you gain from the upgrade? Every firmware upgrade has some potential for failure - flash memory upgrades are a lot easier. and a lot less prone to failure than EEPROMs used to be, but, you can still lose a perfectly functional piece of hardware to a firmware upgrade.
