trying to get 724T default management access back

So I have a lovely 724T switch (the one without a console port).

So I was able to set my pc's interface static to access 192.168.0.239.

But appraently there's another netgear switch in the network with the same default ip management ip.

As soon as I got/logged into the intended switch, after a few seconds, the other netgear switch took over the session and forced me to look at that switch. (that one is accessible at 192.168.0.239 as well)

So my attempted solutoin was to isolate the 724T switch from main network(that has another default ip'ed netgear)  and configure it first.

However, due to office procedues, I had to tempoarily disconnect and attempt to back in.

But nothing gets grabbed on 192.168.0.239.

I even restarted my computer. Does 724T have a timeout or something for the last ip it was accessed from?

or do I have to restart/reset the switch?

Thanks.

  • First - you cannot set your PC to the same address that the switch you're trying to connect to is at - the PC needs to be at a different address in the same network range as the switch.

Second - the switch defaults to 192.168.0.239 IF there is no DHCP server on the network - the switch MAY NOT BE at 192.168.0.239 - it may be a good idea to disconnect the switch from the network, reset it to factory defaults and then reconfigure it from scratch.

It is to avoid confusion such as this that I strongly suggest that switches and other network infrastructure devices be set to static addresses.

To answer your questions - yes - there is a time out - if you disconnect from the switch without logging out, it will time out the session - the time out perios is usually configurable, however, this will not prevent you from reconnecting - the switch will simply tell you there is an existing session from ip a.b.c.d and tell you to connect again.
