GS108Tv2 LAG with GS116E

I have an issue and a question.

Question: Does anyone have a LAG setup with a GS116E to any other switch?

Issue:  My GS116E will not let me setup a LAG.  The LAG dropdown is empty. Have tried factory reset, multiple firmware versions, mutiple versions of config util on diff machines.

In addition does anyone have a config that has a LAG setup that you could export and send?  Interested to see what would happen if I import a config that has a LAG setup.

Unfortunatelly it is looking like this switch was a waste of money.......

  • So basically I wasted my money due to horrible documentation . Furthermore the support has been one if the worst I have ever had to engage. (Maybe not as bad as Dell but definitely the worst network equipment vendor experience). I now regretfully hit the accept solution button.

My solution: to never purchase another business class Netgear product.

In closing I shall enjoy taking this switch to the range next week to use it as target practice.

Thanks to all involved for taking weeks to figure out the feature in question was actually not supported at all.

    Good day.

    Hi dancrosoft,

    Welcome to NETGEAR community!

I will introduce the process for setup LAG: configure LAG membership members before you enable the LAG.

    1. Go to System -> LAG -> LAG Membership.
    2. Select LAG ID, e.g. LAG 1.   ab.jpg
    3. Select the ports for the LAG by selecting the check boxes under the port numbers. And A LAG consists of at least two ports, e.g. port 1, port 2.
    4. Click the Apply button.
    5. Go to LAG Configuration page.c.jpg
    6. Select the LAG1.
    7. In the Admin Mode menu, select Enable, click Apply button.

If you want to learn more knowledge, please go to the http://downloadcenter.netgear.com/, check GS116E User Guide:

Thank you for your reply.  Here is my issue.  In the top screenshot here you show a 1 in the LAG dropdown - Mine has NONE!  I have tried every firmware version out there + every combination of the config tool.  None of them show a LAG in the dropdown.

I can't even click on ports.  When I do and hit apply - I get an error.

      No LAG :(

        Hi dancrosoft,

I check your screenshot and decription, please try these methods:

        1. Please install a configuration utility to select additional options to manage the switch for your network. This utility is on the resource CD that was shipped with the switch, which is only supported on Windows.
        2. Please try to use IE browser or which browser the switch supported, instead of utility.
        3. Delete the IE browser data, include temporary files, history, cookies and etc.  Then exit the browser and open it again to manage the switch.

If you still get an error mentioned in your last reply, please give some information or screenshot about the error.

        Regards,

        NETGEAR Employee

  • Confirmed. Utility is the latest version. I have tried it on several different machines all with the same result.

Also I have tried multiple versions of the tool with multiple versions of firmware.

I performed a factory reset before trying each version of try on another PC.

Do you have access to one of these switches. Can anyone export a config with a LAG configured and send it. I am interested to see what happens if I import a config with a LAG in place.

I did.  They escalated and never called me back.. That was more than a week ago.

  • I called in again and they said still waiting on engineering. Hopefully they will come back soon. Have a couple boxes coming online in a week and need ports. Would hate to have to trash a switch I paid decent $$ for.

      Hi dancrosoft,

We get the information: GS116Ev1 did Not support LAG and will update the user manual document.

So if you want to use LAG, please swap another switch, e.g. GS116Ev2.    :smileyhappy:
