GS728TP: PoE Fault
Hello,
We just purchased a GS728TP PoE Smart Switch.
Unfortunately, when we plug in a new device that requires PoE, the switch has to be rebooted before it will recognise (and provide power to) the new device. It works without issue after this has been done.
I raised a support ticket and Netgear advised me there must be hardware fault on the device. They have suggested that I return it to the supplier.
My original intention was to purchase a GS724TP, but was apparently it is now obsolete and the GS728TP was a direct replacement.
We also have a GS748TP (purchased at the same time), and this works without any PoE issues.
Has anyone else come across a similar problem?
Perhaps I missed something obvious in the configuration. However, I have done a factory reset (and also waited 20 minutes to see if the switch recognises the device without having to reboot).
Many thanks in advance,
Stephen

- Hello,
I'm very happy to find a topic referring exactly the issue i faced.
I also received a replacement switch put problem was still the same (last firmware from the website, etc ...).
After hours of troubleshooting, i found out that it's related to the cascaded switch behind this one.
This GS728TP was connected on a GS724TP, and both are POE switches, i disabled the POE feature on both switches on the ports used to cascade them and no issues anymore.
I don't know if you had same setup but in my case it's now solved ! :)
Regards.

I am still in conversation with Level 3 support. But, it is such a laborious process. - longwoodAspirantAgainst my better judgement, L3 support insisted upon sending me (yet) another replacement switch. This time, it was already "flashed" with the latest firmware (6.0.1.14).
I'm happy to confirm that the switch is (so far) behaving itself, and I no longer need to reboot the switch to when pluggin in additional POE devices.
I'll provide a further update in a few weeks.

Hi julien
Thanks for mentioning your solution. I am having a similiar problem only deactivating POE on that single port isn't enouph.
POE only works (on all ports) when no other switch is connected... Very strange. I am on the newest 6.0.1.16 Firmware.

I am just curious if both of your GS728TP and GS724TP are already using the latest firmwares v6.0.1.16 and v5.2.0.11 respectively? I just want to know... - raoof4312Aspirant
