MS305E Invalid password when accessed through DNS name instead of IP
I just configured a new MS305E.
When I access the UI through it's IP address (http://10.10.1.5), everything works correctly.
When I access the UI through a DNS Name (http://switch1.home), I get the login screen, but the password is rejected.
Any idea what is wrong ?

Salut be_philippe
The MS305E/MS308E (same for the GS305Ev4/GS308Ev4) user manual does describe the ability for changing the switch device name.
"This device name shows in, for example, in Windows Explorer and Bonjour. You can change the device name, which can be up to 20 characters." while leaving it somewhat cryptic (I'm just a network engineer 8-)) what effects the configured name has, and what the switch admin can expect.
I would assume that is kind of a configured device name of a virtual Web server.
Hope it continues to the access with the correct password regardless if using the switch LAN IP address and the name.
Said that, please be careful when experimenting with the switch device name (I don't own any of these models, so can't try). Unclear to me if it has to be switch1 or switch1.home in your use case. Worst case, a factory reset might be required.
Please keep the community posted on your findings. Thank you!

-Kurt.

High Kurt,
I did change the device name of the switch (I tried with and without the .home suffix).
The new name appears in NETGEAR Discovery Tool, but it still doesn't work through the DNS name.
Also, when accessing the UI through the IP address, the logon screen shows the device model (MS305E), but when accessing it through the DNS name, it shows "Failed" instead ???
Anyhow, thanks for your answer.
Regards,
Philippe
Afraid, I don't own an MS305E (nor a MS308E), so can't compare. On the GS308EPP, defining the device name does not make a difference, it can be reached and accessed using the password either way.
As we haven't seen active moderators in these community sections since the big update, and your MS305E is new, don't hesitate to contact the formal Netgear support via https://my.netgear.com/
This is definitively an unexpected behaviour, suspect a bug.
This DNS name is served by the ISP router LAN btw. - works like using the pure lan IP address.
