MS308 unstable connection
Hello,
I just upgraded my old 8 ports Netgear Switch for the newer MS308. When Doing this I also upgraded my ethernet cables from Cat 5(e) to Cat8.
Problem I have that since moving to this new switch my internet has gone up in speed (was 940mb/s) but down in consistency. Normally I have a 1.1GB connection with an 12ms ping but very frequently it drops down to 500mb and sometimes even loses connection (Google not loading).
I used some of the old cables (which i know work) and exchanged the cable from my PC to the switch (it still happened) and also replaced the cable from the switch to the wall (it still happened), no success.
I also moved the incoming and outgoing cables to a different port on the switch, which also doesn't make difference.
You would think 500mb/s is plenty but I just got out of a conference call that kept dropping me and also paused the video of my 3 colleagues reporting bad internet connection.
Any suggestion what else I can do? Does it look like something is wrong with the MS308 (like I think there is)?

Video conferencing doesn't use anything close to 500 mbps. So this particular issue must have had a different cause.
- Are you seeing a lot of packet loss with the new switch? That could explain both the performance drop and the video conferencing problem.
- Were you using a corporate VPN when you were on the video call?
- Another possible cause was the CPU load on the PC you were using. Did you try rebooting when you saw the performance issue?

As suggested above, I'd look next at packet loss. You should be able to see this in the switch web ui.
You could try putting back the old switch (using the new cabling) and see if the performance gets more consistent.
What multigig devices do you have (other than the switch)?

It is the MS308, it's unmanaged, no web interface option. Could I measure it someway from my PC?
Good idea about the old switch, will try that.
My Multigig devices are:
- 2 Switches (MS305 & MS308)
- The Sagemcom internet router from my internet provider
- Wifi access point and satellites (Orbi 870)
- My Windows desktop
- My Macbook pro
- The wife Macbook air
- iPad pro
- 2 iPhones
I was just think I moved the incoming cable only on the router, I can try moving both cables on the MS308.

Ping can give you some idea - running ping -n 1000 8.8.8.8 from the windows command line (cmd) will ping google's DNS server 1000 times (once a second) and give you a summary on how many pings succeeded. You can also do this on a Mac from terminal (ping -c 1000 8.8.8.8). You can also ping your router IP (or the Orbi) if you want to test a local connection - that takes the internet out of the equation.
