WNAP210v2 Connection Issues

I have a CG3000v2 cable modem. This is connected via an ethernet cable to a 5 port switch in another room. All devices connected to the router Wifi or switch ethernet function perfectly. I have connected a WNAP201v2 (2.1.6 firmware) to the switch as it is in a distant room from the router and the wifi link to the router is poor. The WAP is set up as a DHCP client and it has the same SSID and security options and is set to a seperate channel. When connected to the CG3000v2 the Wifi works perfectly. When connected to the WAP we get frequent dropped connections. We use Apple MacBooks - when we run wireless diagnostics we get green lights for Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi settings, Network settings but red lights for ISP, Internet and server. When we run diagnostics it seems to come right but then rapidly drops again.  The log on the WNAP shows a typical picture like this

Netgear support seems unable to help. My limited knowledge of networking is not enough to even start to work this out and it is slowly driving me insane. Ive thought about buying a different product but am worries the same thing might happen. Can anyone tell me what I am missing? Very grateful for any help.

  • Hello Mungon,

Please try playing around with the channels. Use channels 1,6 and 11 and see if the connection drops or if it will totally go away.

    Thanks,

    Hello Mungon,

    Welcome to the community!

I understand you are having an issue with the stability of the connections on the AP, let me help you out. I have seen some post way back regarding this and it appears that a DNS routing issue is causing the disconnections. Try manually assigning a public DNS (Primary 8.8.8.8 and Secondary 8.8.4.4). See image below for reference:

In addition to this, I woul also like to know what is the firmware version that is currently used by the AP.

    Looking forward to your response.

    Thanks,

The WNAP210 Firmware is 2.1.6. I'll change the DNS settings on the WAP - I cannot change the DNS settings on the cable router as these are set by my internet provider (Optus). This will mean they are not the same but I assume this will be OK?

        Hi Mungon,

There is no need to change the DNS on the router, just the DNS on the WAP will do. It should be okay even if they are not the same.

        Thanks,
