Unable to create a free OpenDNS account
I am currently trying to open a free OpenDNS account on Netgear Genie. I am using a Netgear R6100 router, and setting up the new account on Mac OS 10.10.5. My problem is after I enter my username, password, and email into the fields, it keeps telling me to enter a 6-20 character password. No matter what kind of 6-20 character password I put in the field, it keeps coming up with this and now I am stalled at this point trying to set up parental countrols.
I closed both Netgear Genie and my browser to try to make this work, but to no avail. Anyone have an advice/assistance on this issue?
Thanks!

I am doing it through the Netgear Genie that I downloaded onto my Mac last night. I have not used another computer because I do not want any of this on my childrens computer. Mine is the main one, and it needs to work off of mine.

Hi Checkers,
It is okay for you to perform the account creation process using another computer or device since it will not treat that computer as the main computer which will have control of everything. This is for us to isolate if the issue is with the computer. Once you have successfully created your OpenDNS account, you may configure everything on your main computer.

I am also having the exact same problem.

Same problem here. I'd read that someone else created an account with a15-character password, but that does not work for me, either, nor should it be a requirement. Any help on this? Thanks.

Has taken me an hour or two to create the free OpenDNS account in the Netgear Genie application on my PC.
In the end, I used 16 characters and wrote the password into Notepad and used cut-n-paste.
I suspect that problems may occur if the Genie Application is assuming a US keyboard as the "special" characters may not be "seen" the same as typed.
After 25 years in TechSupport I have learnt to avoid the use of special characters in passwords - it can be very difficult to enter them on different keyboards. And there should _always_ be an option to show what is entered as is common these days on smart phones etc.
I hope this helps other avoid this frustration.

Thanks for the tip. Finally took when I made one 17 characters long.
DexterJBif the requirements are greater than 8 characters why does it keep saying I can make a password with 8 characters?
Very frustrating

Hi losflemings,
This is already being looked at and a fix should be in the works. We apologize for the inconvenience since this has just been recently implemented a part of improving the security feature. Rest assured, your feedback is noted.

I can not reset my pass openDNS password. I clicked on the link "forgot password". I received an email with a link to reset the password for my openDNS account. When I click on the link I enter my user name and a new, random password that contains at least one upper, lower case digit, one number and one special character. However, I receive an error which states: "Invalid login. Please check your username and/or password."

Hi eaglesfan21,
Please try creating a password that is exactly 15 characters long and see if it works. You may also try using another device (smartphone, another computer).

Also unable to create OpenDNS account, here are my stats:
- Installed fresh version of Genie 2.4.16 on my Windows 10 machine;
- Authenticated Genie against my Router R7500 running newest Firmware V1.0.0.94;
- Entered into "Parental Controls" screen, clicked "No, I need to create a freee OpenEND account."
- Requested a Username, reponsed with "Available!"
- Entered a new password with two numerals, two Capletters, six lowerletters, and one "*"
- Still gives me "Invalid password. The password must be between ... etc. ..."
Can you help?
