AX6000/RBK852 Wired Backhaul mode - Guest Network - No internet when connected through the satellite

I just bought a AX6000/RBK852 (RBK850/RBS850) with the lattest firwmare V3.2.16.6.

I have a lan cable connected between my main and the satellite (wired backhaul mode). I have a guest network too. When wireless devices are connected to the guest network through the satellite, internet is not working on them. Once I remove the cable so that there is no more wired backhaul mode anymore (just the normal wireless backhaul), internet is working on devices connected to the satellite as expected.

Wireles devices connected to the guest network on the main unit are working OK.

This has been already documented here https://community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi-AX/RBK53-Guest-Network-No-Internet-and-missing-checkboxes/td-p/1847424

Basically the guest network is not working for satellite connected by cable (wired backhaul).

I am really surprised that an issue like that had not been taken care of as it makes the guest network completely useless., working only around the main router unit.

Am I doing something wrong or is it a big bug ?

Thanks

  • I finally updated to v3.2.17.12.

After a reboot (exactly 2 reboot of the RBR as for some reason there was no internet connection during the first reboot and one reboot of the RBS), guest network is working correctly with the satellite in Wired Backhaul mode.

I did not need to do factory reset / reload my configuration.

Finally Netgear was able after 6 months to fix this basic function.

I wrote to the support desk to tell them the issue was solved.

FURRYe38 thanks for your help during these 6 months...

  • Is your system in router or AP mode? Mines in router mode and I have three devices connected to the guest network and there getting internet thru the RBS that are wired for me. I haven't tried AP mode yet.

There a switch in between the RBR and RBS? If so, what is the mfr and model#...

I have RBR852 with two satellites, one connected to the router via homeplug/ethernet and the other daisy chained to it. Bizarre but true: when I tried to set up g=uest network via the web interface, it wouldn't work (wouldn't pass the password to the satellites so I could never log on) but when i initialized via the ios app, it changed the name of the guest network to a standardized "xxx-Guest" where i had tried to use a different naming convention, accepted the password i had tried to put in via the web app , and initialized successfully.

I don't have the will to test, but try following strict naming convention "xxx-Guest" where xxx is the name of your regular network and then try initializing via the ios app.

      • What happens if you use the RBRs web page and web broswer to setup the guest network?

  • I have the exact same setup and problem as OP philouu. Latest firmware on router and satellites, wired Backhaul, router mode. I don’t think anyone has answered OP question.

The issue is that guest network works if connected to main router but not wired satellites.

I'm answering this now from guest network attached to wired satellite. Works for me if a/you use the generic suggested guest network name or b/you use a network name in the form xxx-Guest where xxx is your regular network name

Guest network is working for me and one other using v6 FW. RBS are wired, mine is using switches in between the RBR and RBS.

Is your RBS directly wired to the RBR or are there switche(s)in between? If so, what is the mfr and model# of these switch(s)?

Remove the switch(s) and directly connect the RBS to the RBR and test GN again.

  • Tagging this as I have the same issue. Thanks for all the work on chasing it down
