blamed everything other than the router over 9 months

Having this exact same problem, I blamed everything other than the router over 9 months but after a lot of messing about it's still hopeless. They won't refund me (apparently nether dont do that)  and the technical support seem to be clueless about what to do. Like you my old orbi was fine and am considering reinstalling it just to get decent wifi again..  what a total waste of money...

  • Have you got the 20/40MHz disabled?

Also what region are you located in?

  • What devices do you have connected?

What model Orbi system do you have?

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6A STP is recommended.

    How many RBS are deployed?
What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router 📡 and satellite(s)🛰️? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR 📡 and RBS 🛰️ to begin with depending upon building materials when wired or wirelessly connected.

Does this happen with the RBS turned OFF?
Does this happen with both wireless and wired devices?
What channel configurations are currently set on the router?

Try disabling the following and see:
Armor, IPv6, Smart Parental Controls or Circle, Traffic Meter.

      1. I have tons of devices, smart TV, speakers, computers, security, cameras, alarms etc - its why I wanted a powerful system that could handle it all.
      2. 970 with x2 satellites
      3. not sure but I checked with the bloke on the phone and it is up to date
      4. modem is
      5. will replace this just in case, but it should be ok
      6. 1000 sf (roughly)
      7. bout 20ish I think and 25 ish for the other but any further and they struggle to find each other - I can play around I guess.
      8. I can try turning off the satellites for a bit and see if there is an improvement - will come back about this - its just taht the signaldoesnt then cover the whole house.
      9. only wireless devices area problem although I obviously dont move around with wired devices so much
      10. can you give more info here? I did play around with them with guidance from the phone support but had no impact.
      11. will try this

      Thankyou:-)

Ok so I see a couple of items that maybe a cause of what your having problems with....

        1. 1000sf? if so then having the router and 2 satellites is not going to work well in the small sized home. The RBR alone can handle that size. Having that and two satellites all under that size of home is going to be over saturating the home and the system and wifi signal over lap is going to be problematic for your connecting devices. Lets turn OFF both RBS for now and run just the router unit. The 973 series was not designed for that size of home. I've got a 5000sq ft home and can get away with the router and just one satellite wired or wireless.
        2. And yes, even if you had a larger home, the distances between the router and satellites needs to start at 30 feet or more. Anything less causes wifi signal overlap issues.
        3. What is brand and model# of the ISP modem the router is connected too?
        4. How many in total devices do you have?

thankyou, I have just seen this message, im going to try the bottom two things tan then respond properly - thankyou for you help - it is appreciated. I don't think there is 30 foot between the router and satellites so will also explore that, maybe 20ish (allowing for walls in the way etc) they dont always talk to each other if I move the further away though.

  • HI

    Thankyou for this.

good point about the satellites, the only thing is that I do have a couple of blackspots in my house (hence my perceived need for a mesh system). it is probably just about 30 foot if I place one at the extremity of my house, but if I do that then the base cant find it! I will try taking the satellites offline for a few days and see what happens re general connectivity, at least that will solve one problem!

my modem is call Netominia - I'm online with Youfibre.

Really appreciate how clear your advice is and the time you have taken to help me.

Ok, please try with the RBR unit only, then after a few days, try turning on 1 RBS. Place out at 30feet ish range and place where the signal shows as GOOD on the RBRs web page. May need to move it around a bit and give a few minutes for the status to change on the RBRs web page.

  • sorry - I have about 80ish devices I think, obviously not all on at the same time. Some more important than others
