RAX20 - won't connect via cable modem
Just got a RAX20 router, and tried to connect it to my Virgin Media (UK) hub set in modem mode. Have successfully set the Hub to modem mode; powered it up; powered up RAX20; connected Hub to WAN port on RAX20; connected a PC via cable to RAX20 ethernet port. Pointing a browser at 192.168.1.1 gives me:
Configuring the Internet Connection.
You are not connected to the Internet
Do you want NETGEAR Genie to help?
Selecting Yes, Next gives me:
Detecting the Internet Connection
This process can take a minute or two. Please wait.
Then
Internet detected - click Next
Checking the Internet connection; please wait
THEN:
Configuring the Internet Connection.

...which is where we started.
Just running setup wizard, so haven't got as far as discovering firmware version yet.
Any advice would be welcome.
For the benefit of anyone else who polls up here with a similar problem, I did eventually try a combination of leaving the Hub for 10+ minutes to stabilise before switching on the router (as recommended), then skipped the wizard, set up a new admin password, THEN returned to the wizard to get it talking to the modem. Finally worked.

Has a power off for 1 minute then back ON with the ISP modem and router been performed since last update?
Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:
Turn off and unplug modem.
Turn off router and computers.
Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on computers and rest of network.Contact the ISP for additional help and information regarding there modem and configurations.
Hi - thanks for the reply. Yes I did try with that exact sequence (following another post) but no go.
I see a lot of issues with the virgin hubs and their passthrough/modem only mode.
Tends to be sketchy and not work properly.
What a lot of people do is leave the virgin hub in router mode (disable its wireless) and then put the netgears IP address into the virgin's DMZ.
Why am I not surprised to hear the Virgin Hub is flaky...? Good advice, which I'll probably end up following, but irritating to have to accept a compromise.

Power off the SuperHub and the RAX20.
Power on the SuperHub on its own and wait for 10 minutes before switching on the RAX20.Some people on Virgin have to do this in their area before starting their router due to line noise and a slow dhcp server.
It's worth a try and you may need to do a factory reset on the RAX20 settings to make sure the router resets itself to the new dhcp lease.

Glad you got it working. Please mark your thread as solved so others will know. Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.
