XAV5004 doesn't always come out of standby
I've got an XAV5001 connected to my router, another XAV5001 at a PC, and they work together well.
However, I also have an XAV5004 with a DVD player and AppleTV (G1) connected, and it rarely comes out of standby.
Once it's gone into standby, I usually have to disconnect/reconnect the power cable to reboot it and get it to come online.
When it does, I get decent speeds. It doesn't lose it's connection once it's out of standby, and I don't appear to have any wiring issues.
I have the current firmware (it hasn't changed in many months), and I'm getting really frustrated by this. Tech Support is not much help. I returned the first XAV5004 I bought for a replacement thinking it could be the device, but this second one behaves exactly the same.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Are other people having the same issue?

- PagefaultAspirantThe v0.2.1.1 for the XAV5001 runs more stable. With 2 XAV5001 I didn't had any standby problems anymore. BUT I still have some strange network breakdowns. Only for maybe 30 seconds, but with my old 14MBit-adaptors I never had problems like this.
For the XAV5004 there is still no new firmware out (only 2.0.9.). When I am running my 2 sets with XAV5001 to XAV5004, i still have standby issues. I can solve it with unplugging or renaming the device.

Ingo - CheesyMAspirantI have a similar problem with the XAV5004 not waking up properly:
XAV5001 (v2.1.1CE) next to Broadband Router
XAV5004 (v2.0.9CE) downstairs connected to a PVR
The PVR can connect without a problem to the internet initially. But once the XAV5004 has gone into standby mode, even though the XAV5004 appears to wake up (LEDs come on), the PVR can no longer connect to the internet. It doesn't matter what I do with the PVR (restart, reconfigure network connection, etc.). The only thing that helps is unplugging and reconnecting the XAV5004.
This is very frustrating, since the PVR needs regular (daily) internet access to contact an internet server for scheduling updates.
I have another XAV5001 and never have problems, despite it being unused for long periods (days).
I have raised a ticket with Netgear support - let's see what happens... - whoitTutorWell, the firmware update did not work, I still have the same problem as before - the same as you guys are reporting.
I'm beginning to wonder if replacing the 5004 with a 5001/switch combination
might work better?
Of course, it'll cost more, and I'll have to throw away the money and time I've already spent on the 5004, but I'm sure Netgear doesn't give a rat's a**.
They're certainly not doing anything to help... - CheesyMAspirant

Yes, I'm sure that would work, but it would be better if the 5004 worked as it was meant to
I'm hoping if enough people raise support tickets, they'll fix the problem.
So far, Netgear support have told me to run the firmware update, despite the fact I already told them I was on the latest version (2.0.9) - whoitTutorI agree - it should work as advertised.
The problem with Support is that if you don't contact them (and follow through),
your support quickly runs out and they want to charge you.
I created another thread about that: http://forum1.netgear.com/showthread.php?t=75374
All they want to do is sell me more support for a problem they should fix.
Talk about mad! - Sir_LauncelotAspirantI have the same problem. It only affects the XAV5004. Maybe I will have to replace it with another XAV5001.
Does anyone have a copy of the Netgear diagnostics that give a lot more detailed information on the RF nature of the powerline? I know it is only intended for Netgear engineers, but would love to see more details.
I often get 100+ Mbps speed shown in the utility, but have problems viewing content that is less than 40 Mbps. - stt101AspirantYa, I just got this today and have already run into the permanent power save mode issue. Same thing it looks like to fix it, you have to unplug and replug in the 5004 portion, and then all is fine.
Hopefully a firmware fix is in the works. I guess in the meantime, I'll do even better power saving and just leave it unplugged while not in use. - DANL242NoviceWell I've had 2 sets of these for a couple of months now. 1 XAV5001 at the router with 2 XAV5004, 1 in master bedroom connected to Panasonic GT-50 and Panasonic Bluray.
The other XAV5004 is in the main home theater area connected to a Samsung C8000, a Bluray player and Denon receiver.
Both units refuse to come out of sleep mode.
By leaving the Denon in stand by mode that XAV5004 will stay awake and never loses the connection.
The only alternative is hit the reset button or unplug/replug.
You would think as long as this has been going on Netgear would have a firmware fix by now... - JonnoTAspirantI've been pretty happy with my XAV5004 kit, but the sleep issue is extremely annoying.
Is someone from Netgear able to confirm as to whether or not a fix is in the works? I'm happy to assist with debugging if need be, but the issue is extremely straightforward to reproduce:
1. Allow the XAV5004 to go to sleep. In my case, this is done by turning off the Denon receiver and Pioneer Blu-Ray player and Apple TV attached to it.
2. The absence of network activity causes the device go to sleep.
3. When devices attempt network activity, the XAV5004 appears to wake up, but there's never data flow.
As others have stated, a reboot is required to get it to reconnect.
XAV5004 and XAV5001 are running firmware v0.2.0.9NA (even though it was bought in Australia).
If it weren't for this issue, this kit would be flawless. NetGear, please, don't allow a rather trivial issue spoil an otherwise perfect product. - JonnoTAspirantIt's clear that this bug has been in existence for over twelve months. The likelihood of a fix seems slim.
Seriously NetGear, if you don't want to fix buggy software yourself, do yourselves a favour and open source the code.
I would happily fix this bug if I had the source code to the firmware on these units. Heck, I'll even sign an NDA if there are components that are licensed, however it seems unlikely since they're resoundingly based on open standards.
Does NetGear even monitor these forums?
