Unable to log in after updating firmware

Hi everyone, I'm hoping someone here can help me out.

I've been using a EX6100 wifi extender since July with no problems what so ever. Until now.

On the 24th I noticed a firmware update was available for my extender, so I figured I would update it, all went well but I had to do the set up process again ( pressing the wps on the extender and router and such ) the problem is though after that I noticed the extender was only transmitting a 5G signal. This was odd as I usually have 2G available too.

I went to the user login page and I was greeted with "New extender setup" and asks me to create an account, so I fill in the username, password, retype password, first and second security question, I click next but once again I am greeted with the same "new extender setup" and a really long URL that reads:

http://192.168.0.7/%22);%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20var%20errorCode%20=%20parseInt(retStr[0],%2010);%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20if%20(errorCode%20==%201)%20%7B%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20$(%22#login_error").removeClass("ng-hide");              $('#login_error').addClass("error");            } else {              checkData();              createCookie('session_id',retStr[1],7);              top.location.replace(retStr[2]);            }          },          error: function(responseText, textStatus, XMLHttpRequest) {            if (window.console && console.log) {              console.log("responseText:", responseText);              console.log("textStatus:", textStatus);              console.log("XMLHttpRequest:", XMLHttpRequest);            }          }        });      });    });  </script></head><body class="weblogin"><ui-view><div class="login-body ng-scope">  <!--[if IE 8]><img src="./img/login/login_picture.png" height="100%" width="100%" style="position:absolute;z-index:1;"><![endif]-->   <div id="login-body-inner" class="login-body-inner">    <!--[if IE 8]><img src="./img/login/login_facet.png" height="20%" width="100%" style="position:absolute;z-index:2;left:0px;bottom:0px;"><![endif]-->     <section class="login-form ng-scope" style="position:absolute;z-index:3;">      <div class="login-logo"></div>              <br>             <br>                          <form name="loginForm" id="loginForm" class="ng-pristine ng-invalid ng-invalid-required" method="POST" action="web_login.cgi?id=747263008">        <div class="loginInfo">        <input type="text" ng-model="userId" id="userId" name="email_auth"  placeholder="admin" required="" value=""  class="ng-pristine ng-invalid ng-invalid-required">        <input type="password" ng-model="password"  id="password" name="passwd_auth"  placeholder="Password" required=""  value=""  class="ng-pristine ng-invalid ng-invalid-required ng-valid-maxlength ng-valid-minlength ng-valid-pattern">            <div id="login_error" class="ng-hide">Username and password do not match.</div>        <input type="checkbox" ng-model="rememberMe" name="remember_func" id="rememberMe" value="Remember Me" class="ng-pristine ng-valid" >        <label for="rememberMe" class="login-remember">Remember me</label>        <br>        <input name="login_bt" id="loginBt" type="button" value="LOG IN">        <a id="userPwdHelp" class="ng-hide" onclick="pwdRecovery();">Username & Password Help</a>        </div>        <div class="">        <input id="newExtSetup" name="newext_setup" type="button" class="button-new" onclick="pwdSetup();" value="NEW EXTENDER SETUP">        </div>        <input type="hidden" name="login_ng" value="">        <input type="hidden" name="next_file" value="ajax/pwd_setup">        <input type="hidden" name="support_cookie" value="0">      </form>    </section>  </div></div></ui-view></body></html>

If someone could help that would be great.

    Hi P515,

Are you able to test the login page with other web browsers / devices?

Please try a factory reset to defaults (page 37 of 47):

    http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/EX6100/EX6100_UM_11Apr2014.pdf
Insert a paper clip into the Factory Reset hole and hold it until the Power LED blinks amber.

    Release the button.

All the LEDs turn off for about 3 seconds.

The Power LED lights solid amber for about 30 seconds.

The Power LED lights solid green.

The extender returns to its factory settings

Hi, Yes I tested the log in page with firefox to see if that was any different, what happens there is that I click next but nothing happens, acting as if I never clicked it.

Also I did attempt a factory a factory reset, I went through the reinstall type thing with the extender and router but once again I was greeted with the same problem as my initial message.

I only wish to be able to log into the extender page, Internet connection is perfect but I do like to moniter things.

        Hi P515,

Can you please provide a screenshot of this error?

I would like to forward this on to support and engineering.

  • Hi Netgear-Team,

i have currently the same problem with my EX6100(configurated as an access point) too.

Last weekend i updated my firmware from version 1.0.1.28xxx  to  1.0.1.36.

This upgrade procedure has keeped all current setting from ex6100, i'm very happy about that.

As i had tryed to login to my admin page from ex6100 i get showed the same login page with information described already from this thread starter.

I have fear to make a factory reset of my access point and  have later on a piece of hardware where i can't login and configure.

How to proceed in this case?

Is there availiable one additional "admin" page which one is accessible via full qualified URL?

I need help form NETGEAR in this case.

    Thanks in advance.

      Hi willi_w,

Thank you for sharing your information. Engineers are looking into this case.

You were able to connect to mywifiext.net when you were on firmware 1.0.1.28xxx , correct?
Were you also able to clear browser history/cache and try another web browser?
      Then login to mywifiext.net

        Hi nhann,

        answers to your questions.

You were able to connect to mywifiext.net when you were on firmware 1.0.1.28xxx , correct?

--> i was able to connect directly to IP-Adress, since i'm using EX6100 as an access point, without any problems

Were you also able to clear browser history/cache and try another web browser?

--> i did tryed with 3 different Browsers: Google Crome, Mozilla Firefox 42, and IE11 (and additional Maxthon).

each browser has showed same login page and didn't made forward with login procedure.

        Best regards

        Willi

  • Hi Netgear Team,

I just updated the firmware on my EX6100 and I'm having the same issue with passwords.

I do not want to do a factory reset as it I do not want to risk not able to login and config the device again.

Any ways to login other than the URL?

Not sure if this would help, my existing password has a ";" in it.

      Hello jr123

You can log into the EX6100 if you know the Ip address of the device you would use that. Have you tried login into the EX6100 with a ethernet cord and with it disconnected from the main router?

It's still complaining about wrong password. I tried using direct RJ45 network connection.

  • Figured I'd pay a vist back here, see if any solutions have come forward as I am still having issues with my exender, I think it may be due another update too as my connection when using it is becoming sluggish.

      Hello p515

Have you tried to change the wireless channel on the extender to see if you get a better connection?

Have you tried to factory reset the extender?

Yes that "fixed" it, but what is the point of upgrading the firmware if it locks you out and you have to factory reset?
