How to disable xfinity hotspot on Netgear router (AC1200 WiFi Cable Modem Router(C6220)
My kids have figured out how to bypass the parental controls on my Gryphon Mesh router, which is (redundantly, I realize, but I wanted the parental controls) connected to my Netgear router, by accessing the free Xfinity hotspot. Xfinity says they can't help me because it's not their modem, so I'm hoping someone here can help. I've searched everywhere in the Nighthawk app, but I'm not seeing a setting for disabling the Xfinity hotspot. Any ideas?

Should I know something about that device?

neighbors' routers, is the source of this "free Xfinity hotspot"? Does
it vanish when you power off the C6220?- lmoldovanyiAspirant
Yes, that is exactly how I know that it's my own modem/hotspot and not my neighbor's. That was my very first troubleshooting step.

The only part worth knowing about the Gryphon Mesh router is that I bought after realizing that the Netgenie parental controls were inadequate and hard to use; however it's only a router and not a modem/router combination. So, since I couldn't return the Netgear modem/router, I now have both.

When Comcast does an install the modem/router also has a Xfinity hotspot option that they leave on. Supposed to be there for Comcast customers to connect to when not home. Like has been said, this is a neighbor that has the hot spot. Cannot block usage at your house.

It is definitely mine. Not sure what to tell you. I know this for a fact as it becomes unavailable as soon as I unplug it, and reappears once it powers up again.

I solved it, and I thought I'd share the solution with you since you all seemed unaware of this option but were kind enough to respond. Comcast customer support didn't seem to know anything about this either, so you're not alone. I stumbled onto it.
https://customer.xfinity.com/#/settings/security/hotspot-devices has a list of devices that at one point had logged into the xfinitywifi hotspot with a comcast username/password. I removed those devices. Problem is now solved.
Thanks again.

That doesn't disabled a hot spot. It just basically blocks devices from connecting to an approved xfinity hotspot.
But it'll function the same to block a device from connecting.
Just make sure the kid isn't able to log into your account to allow a device.
