R7000 New Firmware 1.0.6.28 released
New Features:
- Supports Arlo camera. Set up the R7000 as an Arlo base station and connect an Arlo camera to the R7000 without needing an extra base station..
Bug Fixes:
- Fixes the issue in which port 1237 cannot be used in port forwarding.
- Fixes the issue in which the Kwilt binary cannot be downloaded in some cases.
- Fixes the issue in which MTU is not restored when IPv6 is disabled.
If you are going backwards in release number you might still have them (that is from one of the older recalled beta's). However there is NO guarantee they will work. In cases like that you have to RESET the router and then re-apply manually your setting for proper operation.
If you are moving up from and older official release, like V1.0.4 or older you don't need to reset the router but it is advised. In this case I'd give it a try, have any problems, reset and re-enter is the first thing to try. DO NOT load saved settings from any other version into a new one. That seems to be asking for trouble these days.

Hello all,
One thing that I didn't do when I upgraded the firmware was to do a reset right after the upgrade. I thought "I just upgraded it, so it must be good"
Then I noticed that my downloads weren't as good as before. So today, I wanted to try a previous firmware, so I did a reset again, went back to factory configuration WITH the latest firmware, and just before I tried the other firmware, I decided to check my download bandwith. And there is was again, close to 720Mb again. So I just re-applied my configuration and everything is working again great.
So really: reset, firmware, reset.
I know it's been told and told before, but... :)
So far, the latest firmware, .6.28 is very good.
- Hot54321ApprenticeHow is the 5ghz band ?
- LeKeiserLuminary
The 5Ghz band seems to be good, I've tried both my One+ and my LG tablet and they both have a clear and fast signal. I'll try my laptop later, but there is no doubt that it will connect fast and easy :)
I'll update this post when I'm on my laptop.

I have the latest firmware now, and other than not being able to login to the router in Router mode via my PC connected via LAN port, I dont have any other issues with the latest firmware.
EDIT: Now am not able to login to the router in 1.0.4 firmware as well after I upgraded to the latest firmware, but not much of an issue as I use the router in Wireless AP mode and in that everything works. So at the moment am sticking with 1.0.6.28.
- ankyduGuideYup done all that.
- LeKeiserLuminary
what browser are you using exactly?
seems really weird that you cannot connect to the router BUT that you can browse the net...
must be something with the browser, no way it's the router :O
- ankyduGuide
I tried on chrome, Firefox, Edge and internet Explorer all with resetting all browser settings. Also tried through windows 7 and Windows 10.
Edit: the same router becomes accessible in my PC if I change it to wireless AP mode from router mode. So it has to be the router.

Just to update and help others who are not able to login to the router:
I TRIED 5 HARD RESETS WITH THE ROUTER TRYING TO OPEN THE LOGIN PAGE ON MY PC CONNECTED VIA LAN CABLE BUT IT JUST REFUSED TO WORK IN WINDOWS 7 AS WELL AS WINDOWS 10. FINALLY I DOWNLOADED A BOOTABLE LINUX OS AND BOOTED MY PC FROM IT AND VOILA IT WAS ABLE TO ACCESS THE ROUTER WITHOUT ANY ISSUES. SO THE REAL ISSUE LIES BETWEEN THE R7000 AND WINDOWS OS WITH NETGEAR BEING AT FAULT.

If Linux could access after a fresh install, I am sure a fresh install of windows would also have succeeded
Maybe you just messed up your IP and network setup without even understanding it!
Reading through your posts, you should have connected to the router through WAN port not LAN! It is well described in manual and over internet for most routers...
Also, in such scenarios, you must physically disconnect all LAN cables from PC and router and only keep one cable from router WAN port to PC LAN port
Most PCs have 2 LAN ports, so ensure you use teh correct adapter network range
Finally, maybe your PC adapter was not on the 192.168.1.1 (255.255.255.0) sub, to which the router defaults after reset
It can be also you're assigning DHCP through PC or have messed you Windows IPv4 config
- Hot54321ApprenticeCan this tread be a "sticky"?
- ankyduGuideI have kaspersky Internet security, which I cannot uninstall, but I disabled it's protection and exited all its processes from the task manager, just to be sure. Secondly when booting in safe mode with networking kaspersky is not allowed to load by windows, there as well can't access the router.

In fact, your network configuration looks fine under windows with ipconfig /all
If you really did all what you said, and mainly hard reset + connect only one cable between PC and Router, maybe something else corrupted in router or windows. Again, on first hard reset with this 1.06, I had to connect to the WAN from my PC. There was no way to connect using the LAN. After that, using the LAN worked. Why? I have no clue. Just try it as a last chance
If a fresh install of windows is able to connect to the router, then it is an issue with your current windows install, else it is something fishy in router. Provided hardware interface (adapter and cable) is fine!
For windows, many things can affect it. Did you try to look if 192.168.1.(0-255) range is redirected in hosts file ? (%SystemRoot%\System32\drivers\etc\hosts)
If you excluded a windows issue by a fresh install, let's say, it is sad that no Netgear dev ever replies for support here. Their NAS forum is extremely well supported by Team devs. Here, users are left alone it seems

I had a similar issue as well on my desktop with Kaspersky. I had to uninstall it completely in order to be able to connect to my router. Pain in the butt, I tell ya. I'm on 1.0.4.30 as well but going to try the latest and do the factory reset. Let's see where it takes me.
- KillhippieProdigyAn interesting thing is when accessing it using Google Chrome, Chrome reports the connection having been "reset". This means the computer is connecting to the router but something is forcing a disconnect. But, sometimes it works and other times it doesn't. Plus, connecting to other home networked computers can be next to impossible.
But, I located the culprit to be KIS and it can easily be corrected. Do the following on all your machines and your networks will function fine.
1) Right click on the red K on the lower right of your screen
2) Left click settings
3) Left click Protection
4) Left click Firewall
5)Left click Networks
6) Find the adapters for your wired & wireless ports and change them to "Local Network"
7) Close the networks page
8) Left click Configure Packet Rules
9) Find "Any network activity (Local network)"
10) Right click on it and select edit
11) Check the "inactive" box
12) Left click close
Exit all pages and reboot the machine. You're good to go! (from kaspersky support pages)- ankyduGuide
Does not work for me, when I do all the steps your have given, am still not able to access the router, instead of connection reset I get ERR NETWORK ACCESS DENIED in browsers.

2. Flash the R7000_xxx.xx_x.chk file via the web interface.
3. Do another factory reset via the new web interface.
4. Configure everything else.I did this last noght it is a very stable and really cool Firmware. My wireless range and speeds increased as well. This firmware was built for the R7000
- superartificialAspirant
This is my 5th Netgear router. I've followed alot of firmware updates for several devices.
It's hard to say - But this firmware (Asus Merlin) is the best and fastest firmware I've ever run on a Netgear device.
0 Problems if you proced the update steps.
Sorry for that - But it's really a great update for the R7000.
- Hot54321ApprenticeIt is a very stable version! I get more bandwith/speed with the asus-merlin firmware!!
It has even bandwith extender.. That means the signal output gets stronger with a slider. Default is 50%. I set it up to 100%- KillhippieProdigy100% is the same as Netgears 100% the R7000 is already broadcasting at the edge of legal power requirements with stock firmware.
- GodZZilaAspirantHardware NAT supported?
- Hot54321ApprenticeDon't know... I gues it is. But dont know if it's 100%
