Strange behaviour R7000

Hi,

Im using a R7000 with firmaware V1.0.9.60_10.2.60 and for a long time it was the heart of my network. Recnetly I recieved a new modem/router of Ziggo and as it also has dual band Wifi and enuf options to secure my network I decided to use that modem.

Atm its in my network and I can login to it but I can't switch it to another mode, like AP or Repeater. I think I tried everything but what ever I try, no result. I followed the manuals available on the Netgear pages. I reset the modem/router to factory default and manualy restarted it many time. Btw, the only way to restart it is by switching the power button off.

So, is it broken? Kinda end of Life? I also keep getting the error message "WPS proces is in progress, please apply the chances later"

The reason to swith it to AP or prefereably Repeater is for the 5Ghz in my man cave. I have but its kinda low due tot that the other modem is downstairs.

I followed all your steps and at some point Im confused. I wait your responce and hope I did it right this time?

    • Remove R7000 from your network
      • done
    • Turn it on
      • done
    • Wait for all the lights to settle down
      • done
    • Optional step factory reset R7000
      • done
    • Connect PC to LAN port on R7000 and nothing else (it might help to disable wifi)
      • Done. Connected my pc to LAN port 1 (Default Wifi not disable atm)
    • Go to 192.168.1.1
      • done
    • After  factory reset the setup wizard may kick in here, you'll just have to persevere through those daft questions
      • done
    • When the browser interface comes up
    • Advanced
    • Advanced Setup
    • Router / AP / Bridge mode
      • I am confused here cause selecting Repeater modes gives me a new screen with an option like Wireless repeat function. Do I t start following the other link nowo or do I only click Apply?
    • Follow the prompts and warnings
    • Apply
    • Wait for R7000 to reboot
    • Plug R7000 LAN port into router LAN port

Which one are we referring to here? The R7000 or the Ziggo?

If you plan to put the R7000 into AP mode, I find it easier to detach the router from the rest of the network. Connect it to a PC with an Ethernet connection. Go into its controls in the usual way and put it into AP mode.

Then turn it off. Connect it to the modem/router. Reboot the modem/router.

Wait for the modem to establish its internet connection. Now turn on the R7000 in AP mode. All being well, it will connect to the internet.

When it is in AP mode, it will get itself an IP address from the modem/router. You can then use that to access the controls on the R7000.

The Netgear advice is less than complete.

How do I configure my Nighthawk router as a wireless repeater? | Answer | NETGEAR Support

The above is based on my experience with this procedure. But not knowing what the Ziggo might be there could be wrinkles.

To add to what michaelkenward said, I like to set a static IP address on the AP. That way you know rather then trying to figure out what the IP address is if you want to manage the AP. I normally used 192.168.1.2. Just make sure when doing this that you add the net mask, normally 255.255.255.0 and for gateway use the router's IP address. Of course this would be different if the router is on another IP address range, but the principle is the same.

Thakns for you responde and sorry I didnt mention it, it has a static IPadress and has the same subnetmask ofc :)

Ziggo using 198.168.178.xx on its new modems.

      Thanks for you reply.

I want the R7000 to become the repeater and unfortunealty your suggestion does not work cause there is no way to put it in any mode, it just stays in router mode.

That means that you are getting something wrong. But given the lack of information you provide on what you are doing, who knows where you err.

I have just been through exactly that process with a spare R7000P I have lying around. It works.

        Let's try again.

        • Remove R7000 from your network
        • Turn it on
        • Wait for all the lights to settle down
        • Optional step factory reset R7000
        • Connect PC to LAN port on R7000 and nothing else (it might help to disable wifi)
        • Go to 192.168.1.1

        • Advanced Setup
        • Router / AP / Bridge mode
        • Follow the prompts and warnings
        • Apply
        • Wait for R7000 to reboot
        • Plug R7000 LAN port into router LAN port

Note that doing this will change the IP address of your R7000. If you try to access the R7000 after it is on your network, it may well try to connect to your router.
