"Up to 5.8 Gbps" it only uses 20 Mhz

I am having the same issue, it keeps going to 20 MHz even though I'm trying to use this for a Quest 3 wireless access point.  20 MHz is not cutting it either for steamVR.  I bought this router exclusively for this and it is performing worse than congested 5 GHz channels.

  • I confirm the same issue.  So for my new rs500, I cannot get 320.  Best I can do for 6g is to set it to 'up to 2.9gbps' and it will get to 160.  No other combo of channels/speeds works to get 320.  My ASUS router has no problem doing 320 for 6ghz.  How can I get this rs500 to work at 320?

      Hi Router2371

Thank you for the additional details. To better understand the behavior you're seeing on the RS500, could you please let us know which 6 GHz channel the router is currently using when you're testing the “Up to 2.9Gbps” and “Up to 5.8Gbps” modes?
If the channel is set manually, please let us know the channel.

I have another 6 GHz router that uses channel 5 and it can get access to the full 320 MHz, but this one won't even though the box says it can do 320 MHz in 6 GHz band.

If you try channel 5 on the RS300, are you getting different behavior?

    Yeah, we need to know

    • what the router model it is (RS700, RS600, or RS500)?
    • which channel is set to/operating on?
    • and how did you check the bandwidth?

For the 5GHz band on RS700, RS600, RS500, RS200: "Up to 5.8Gbps" can operate in the 160MHz, and "Up to 2.9Gbps" can operate only up to 80MHz (is not supposed to oeprate in the 160MHz).

For the RS300 and RS100, "Up to 2.9Gbps" can operate in the 160MHz.

==> This is due to they have different number of streams for the 5GHz band.

From the router's management Web GUI,

    • BASIC tab / Wireless menu: Wireless Settings | Channel under the 5GHz --> it shows the operation channel set for the 5GHz band.
    • ADVANCED dashboard / Wireless Settings (5.0GHz) tile --> the Channel there shows the actual channel currently the 5Ghz is operating on.

    • Router is a RS300.  The only band enabled with the 6 GHz band, smart connect is off.
      Channel 181 (Freq 6855 MHZ @ 160 MHZ bandwidth)
      Using multiple wifi analyzer applications

Selecting Up to 2.9 Gbps enables 160 MHZ on the 6 GHz band, but enabling the 5.8 Gbps goes straight to 20 MHz when it should be doing 320 MHz.  I have another 6 GHz router that uses channel 5 and it can get access to the full 320 MHz, but this one won't even though the box says it can do 320 MHz in 6 GHz band.

May we know the which WiFi analyzer application was used? windows or MacOS? And type of Wi-Fi adapter used for scanning?

How are you checking this? What scanner/device are you using?

    Screensnips?

What model router do you have?

What firmware version is loaded on the system?

What wifi devices do you have that your speed testing with?

What channels are you using on the router?

    Is Smart Connect enabled?

    Is MIMO enabled?

  • If I set the mode to "Up to 2.9 Gbps" it uses 160 MHz, but "Up to 5.8 Gbps" it only uses 20 Mhz
